PG32UCDM Coil Whine

sagenate24

Recently got this monitor and it makes a very noticeable coil whine that I can hear throughout my apartment. It only happens when the monitor is turned off, which doesn't make sense.

- Issue persists even after unplugging display port from monitor (not connected to PC).

- Firmware Version: MCM105

Below are my PC specs, but it shouldn't matter because it still happens when the monitor is off and not connected to my PC. The only thing connected to the monitor is the power supply.

GPU: 4090, CPU: 14900kf, Motherboard: Alienware, Model: Aurora R16.

Hi @sagenate24 ,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the coil whine issue with your PG32UCDP monitor.

To better assist you, we would like to gather some additional information.

Please confirm the following:

  • Power Environment:
  1. Power outlet: Ensure that the monitor is plugged into a dedicated power outlet, not shared with other high-power devices (e.g., refrigerators, air conditioners).
  2. Power supply unit: Please ensure that your power supply unit has sufficient wattage and is compatible with the monitor's specifications.
  3. Other power outlets: Try connecting the monitor to a different power outlet to see if the issue improves.
  • Surrounding Environment:
  1. Ventilation: Place the monitor in a well-ventilated area, away from heat sources (e.g., heaters, lights).
  2. Stand: Ensure the monitor stand is stable to prevent resonance that may amplify the sound.
  • Sound Source Confirmation:
  1. Power supply unit: Sometimes, coil whine can originate from the power supply unit rather than the monitor itself. Try unplugging the monitor power cable, leaving only the power supply connected, to see if the sound persists.
  2. Power indicator: When you mentioned that the sound occurs even when the monitor is turned off, is the power indicator light still red? This will help us determine if the issue is related to standby mode.
  • When the issue started: Did this issue occur since you first purchased the monitor, or has it recently started?
  • Video recording: To help us better understand the issue, please record a video of the monitor producing the coil whine sound and provide it to us in MP4 format. The video should include the surrounding environment of the monitor and the power connections.

Providing the above information will help us more accurately diagnose the problem.

Thank you.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

All the issues happened ever since I got the monitor. The sound is coming from the back of the monitor, monitor is off (the logo is not lit). There is coil whine while in standby mode, and there is a different high pitched ringing coil whine when its turned off. The monitor is on its own outlet not tied to any appliances, tried other outlets as-well but same issue. Seems to be an incredibly known issue across forums so i'm sure you guys can figure it. I'm just going to return the monitor as this along with the VRR flicker (sRGB mode, uniform brightness) is just not worth it.

Thanks

For what it worth, this kind of coil whine also happen on PG27AQDM when it's on standby. It's really loud.
It doesn't happen when it's on or during the 6 minute of pixel cleaning, so I guess it doesn't happen when there is "load" to it.

I also had one of severals PG34WCDM where I noticed a coil whine, but this time when it's on only. None on standby or off...

I don't really know if a firmware could fix it or if it's just a design/QC things...

If your PG32UCDM Coil Whine is flashing red, white, and blue, it might be a hardware issue that far I seem. So downloading the asphalt nitro mod apk to test the display further.
