PG32UCDM Coil Whine When Off

MrShrimps

My PG32UCDM has coil whine when off, which appears to be an issue others have experienced as well. It makes no sounds when on or in standby mode.

If I did an RMA with Asus, would they send me another unit? I shared a video clip of the noise with a support agent and we made sure the firmware and drivers are up to date. They said I could RMA. I know it would be a crap shoot in terms of the issue being the same, but it seems not every model has this issue. Or would they say this is normal and send the unit back? Has anyone done this?

No way ASUS is gonna make it simple for your RMA process better get ready to face new headache. Most probably you'll receive a reply from them mentioning " we are working on it". It's just an automated text response other than that you won't get any answer or proper reply from them. Best of luck.

my suggestion would be if you got an option for refund better return it and move on to some other brand. Don't ever choose this cash grab brand in your lifetime.

Hi @MrShrimps @Sriarno ,

To better assist you in resolving the coil whine issue, we would like to gather some more information:

  1. Standby mode: Does the coil whine persist when the monitor is turned off or in standby mode?
  2. Power mode: Does the coil whine occur regardless of whether you select standard or power-saving mode?
  3. Repair history: Have you sent your monitor in for repair before? If so, please provide your RMA number and product serial number via private messege for our reference.
  4. Video format: To better understand the issue, we recommend providing a video of the coil whine in MP4 format.
  5. Hardware testing: We suggest trying to replace the PSU, GPU, or connecting cables to see if you can confirm that the coil whine is coming from the monitor itself.
  6. System configuration: To analyze the situation more comprehensively, please provide detailed information about your computer's configuration, including the motherboard, graphics card, power supply unit models and so on.

Providing this information will help us locate the problem more quickly.

Thank you.

Earlier before we have conducted a thorough investigation into this matter.

Our testing results are as follows:

  • Internal Testing: The team have conducted multiple noise tests on this model of monitor, and the results have shown that the noise levels are within normal ranges.
  • Laboratory Testing: To measure the noise levels more accurately, the team sent the monitor to a professional laboratory for further testing. In both standby mode and DC off mode, the noise level was consistently around 18dB. Generally, the human ear needs a noise level of around 25dB to perceive sound in a quiet environment. In a typical office environment, the background noise is usually around 30-40dB. Based on our test results, we have not found any significant coil whine issue as you described.

Thank you.

Alright where is the new firmware with advanced HDR controls as promised?? Also, why ASUS hasn't released any firmware for UCDM model?? Last update was 7 months ago.  We never expected this from such a reputed brand. You guys decided to end support for not even a year-old model?? How come you guys expect us to trust any of your product after such disappointing support?? you guys only want to focus on newly launched models (UCDP) it seems. We feel cheated and scammed by ASUS. Meanwhile other brands like GIGABYTE, SAMSUNG, MSI are all frequently listening to feedback from consumers and releasing firmware for their models. Here we've paid more than those models, but lack of support is what frustrates us. Also, on what basis you guys claim ASUS is best when it comes to service & support?? Try to keep up your word and release firmware with all features unlocked as promised and prove us wrong you morons.🤡

Same issue here. I knew this was an problem before buying it during the recent sales but I didn't expect it to be this loud and I hoped that maybe newer units would have fixed the issue.

I could hear the coil whine when the monitor is turned off all the way across the room, to the point I couldn't sleep and had to leave the monitor in standby instead, which is ridiculous for a $1000+ monitor. I also had a G80SD which uses the same exact panel and that monitor has zero coil whine. It's a shame because ASUS had the nicest image processing of the 4K QD-OLED panels I tried but the coil whine is a deal breaker and will be returned next week.
