I'm also on my 2nd PG32UCDM and both have that slight coil whine when off. But it's not loud enough to really annoy me. Also I have it disconnected from power mostly when I'm not using it.

Support told me that's "normal" 🙂

I also have that issue and what helps with my case of coil whine is to turn the monitor off after the "no signal from input" message you get on the monitor, basically after the PC has turned off.
Whenever I turn the monitor off while the PC is still on, the coil whine is much worse compared to the way I described above. So, just let your PC close completely so that it doesnt send a signal to the monitor and then turn the monitor off.

Try it out and lmk, hope it helps!

Hi @fedup2024 @Takumosan @VGeorge ,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the coil whine issue. We have conducted a thorough investigation into this matter.

Our testing results are as follows:

  • Internal Testing: The team have conducted multiple noise tests on this model of monitor, and the results have shown that the noise levels are within normal ranges.
  • Laboratory Testing: To measure the noise levels more accurately, the team sent the monitor to a professional laboratory for further testing. In both standby mode and DC off mode, the noise level was consistently around 18dB. Generally, the human ear needs a noise level of around 25dB to perceive sound in a quiet environment. In a typical office environment, the background noise is usually around 30-40dB. Based on our test results, we have not found any significant coil whine issue as you described.

If you still believe that the noise from your monitor is excessive and affecting your user experience, we recommend sending your monitor to a nearby official service center for on-site inspection by our engineers.

Thank you again for your patience and cooperation.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

Hi. There is also previous topic for this, mentioning it ftr

Here comes my product feedback:

Since last Tuesday, I am also an owner of a PG32UCDM. For what it is, it is the top-dog panel in the category, and Asus is a top brand. But, there is the matter of the coil whine. I guess my hearing is pretty good in my 40s, as the whine is so strong that I have to power off the monitor when not using it -- for that, I bought a dedicated power switch that goes onto the power socket. The whine hurts me while working from another PC, with the PG32UCDM's back at half a meter on my side. Be so as it may that the noise is at 18 dB (as Asus folks shared in the other thread). The frequency of the sound is such that no other sound in a home competes with it, and that ensures it is well-heard. The high-pitch whine's frequency is in the range where humans are quite sensitive. If Asus as the manufacturer can't get rid of it, they can add a power switch to the monitor. It's a premium product, a power switch shouldn't make much of a difference in cost but it will mean a whole lot in quality of life. If there was such a switch, I would have assumed that's what it was meant for and wouldn't have bothered to look it up on the internet. Also, solving the whine problem people are reporting that way would set you even further apart from other companies, as MSI's monitor with the same panel has the same issue. I hope this helps, Asus.

My second concern was whether there might be damage that would warrant RMA, but since people complain about this en masse, it looks like standard operation for the device. At least one good news.

Keep exploring, keep innovating, keep creating

tnx for support. if you have to conduct noise test when some thing is off, its an auto fail...

solved by buying pg34wcdm. no noise/coil whine when its off, and vrr flicker is minimal, on the 4k it was like discotek.

tnx
