PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!

So i am having this issue since the day i bought the monitor.

At first it was happening during a certain game, the callisto protocol.

Now it is happening also in Destiny 2.

As i am playing these games with HDR on,after some time the screen goes black and i have to manually turn the monitor off and on again in order for the image to appear again.

I had at the beggining the factory firmware, after i updated to MCM102 and now i have the 103.

This issue seems to be consistent on all firmwares.

I know it is not related to my windows setup because on the same pc with a different monitor this does not happen.

I have my pg32ucdm connected via dp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!

I'm not sure if this is totally accurate, but I'm now thinking this might actually be a hardware issue.

I got a replacement after contacting ASUS customer service in the UK. I've been using it for about a month with no issues. DDC/CI and VRR on etc. all the default settings.

That’s good to know and I think I’m going to RMA then and give it a shot. Did you also update the firmware and are you using stock cables?

Yes I upgraded from firmware version 103 to 105. Using the cables that came with it.

I doubt it might be related to a physical hardware issue. I had this Black screen issue within the first two weeks of purchase. Got a replacement unit from Newegg and this issue is still present.

Altho we are no experts this issue is hard to 100% determine it is related to hardware.

I believe a new firmware would fix this. But I'm no expert I'm just very familiar with these black screens.

I'm fairly certain this is a Software issue - the fact that the screen goes completely black yet it's still functioning in Windows (My computer detects it still) makes me think firmware problem. ASUS really needs to respond to this issue - I'm starting to look at competitors for a replacement.

My screen going black in the middle of a Tarkov Raid is going to make me return this monitor and demand a refund. This is unacceptable. Why are they not commenting on this? There is absolutely no way they don't know of this very damaging issue.

Still have the same problem but it happens way less on firmware 105 but happens none the less.

Just received a message from the shop I returned the screen to saying I will get my money back within a couple of days from now.

So happy, but still have a bad feeling about it, the store will never be able to sell it for the full price anymore. The screen was packaged in such a way that you have to tear all the plastics off, break seals etc. And then it's a struggle trying to put it back in its original packaging. It is a very sensitive screen, you leave fingerprints easily, screen is easy to leave marks/scratches on even with a soft cloth, I noticed......

Glad I got rid of it and will not be buying an expensive OLED screen soon. After all of those hugely positive reviews I was convinced buying myself the best monitor possible with the ASUS, but what a disappointment. This time I bought myself a regular LCD screen for 20% (!!) of the price of the ASUS, and have been happy with it right after installing it. Very good easy plug and play screen with no issues or strange behavior whatsoever, screen 100% stretched to the edges, unlike the ASUS (like I said a couple some time ago in this topic). This one also doesn't get hot at all, unlike the ASUS. No fear of burn-in, no hassle with scaling (fonts kept being too thin with that, and some applications do not really support it, have to tune every app), what a RELIEF. TO ME 32" 4K and OLED seems to be pretty overrated and has mainly draw-backs.

I was lucky to inquire about the possibility of sending it back on the LAST day of the "try-out" period of 14 days after receiving it. I think else I would have to see if I could prove to them that it is a problematic/faulty product, which is probably a lot harder to do.

Sorry guys, kind of stabbing you in the back 🙄 but you will probably just not like my new monitor either (on paper). It's a (yes "low contrast" blabla) 32" 2K nano-IPS LG 180hz, guess I'm just not that "demanding" ;). Just wanted to let you know the outcome of it all...

Hi all, I would like to chime in.

Experienced black screen during a Helldivers 2 game. Happened twice in an hour. First time it happened, I simply used the "power on" button behind the chin to turn it on. 2nd time it blacked out and came back without me having to do anything.

I've had this monitor for about a month now. On the first day of use, I heard a pop sound and saw white smoke coming out from the back of the monitor. I pulled out the power cord connected to the monitor. I am convinced that it is smoke as I can smell the fumes.

After the smoke dissipated, I plugged the power cord back in, surprisingly, the monitor still works but I was cautious. I called ASUS and they sent an engineer down. The engineer was unable to do anything onsite, simply asked me to monitor the monitor *Rolls eyes*

Spent quite some dosh on the PG32UCDM knowing that it is one of the best monitors in the market. Little did I know it is so plagued with problems..

System Details:
i9 10900f
Z490 ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII
RTX3080 ROG Strix
16GB DDR4 RAM (8x2)
Windows 10 (HDR on)
ASUS ROG Swift PG32UCDM (3840x2160, 240Hz, HDR Format: Dolby Vision, Firmware: MCM105)

Holy moly if my monitor started smoking I would have immediately returned it, you are brave! If you still can at all take that sucker back or demand a replacement from Asus. Absolutely no way you should mess with something like that in your house.
