PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!

So i am having this issue since the day i bought the monitor.

At first it was happening during a certain game, the callisto protocol.

Now it is happening also in Destiny 2.

As i am playing these games with HDR on,after some time the screen goes black and i have to manually turn the monitor off and on again in order for the image to appear again.

I had at the beggining the factory firmware, after i updated to MCM102 and now i have the 103.

This issue seems to be consistent on all firmwares.

I know it is not related to my windows setup because on the same pc with a different monitor this does not happen.

I have my pg32ucdm connected via dp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!

The problem still persists even after a fresh install. Yesterday I played for three and a half hours and had no black screen problems. Today I get on Final Fantasy 7 remake integrade and within 3 minutes I'm experiencing the black screen problem on my PG32UCDM.

Hi @skygunner ,

Thank you for your reply.

Since you mentioned that the issue only occurs in "Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade," we initially suspect that the problem might be related to the game settings or specific compatibility with your display, rather than a hardware issue with the display itself.

To further troubleshoot the issue, we recommend trying the following steps:

  1. Adjust in-game settings: Try adjusting the display settings within the game, such as resolution, refresh rate, and V-sync, to see if it improves the issue.
  2. Human Sensor feature: Have you enabled the Human Sensor feature on your display? We recommend temporarily disabling this feature to see if the issue persists.
  3. Disable special features: Try disabling features like VRR, DSC, and HDR on your display to see if they are causing any conflicts.

Thank you.

Please note that response times may be delayed due to upcoming regional holidays. For urgent inquiries, please contact your local service center. Thank you for your patience.

That is consistent with my symptoms, sometimes I have 4-5 blackouts in 1,5 hour. Yesterday I had zero in 3 hours gaming (playing the same game).

I never encurred a 10 min one, that would for me be a sign to send it back straight away.

Hi @Aureliannn_ROG ,

So I've been debugging with Indiana Jones black screen. Here is what I found out.

1. HDR off or on makes no difference the screen goes black for few seconds and comes back. This happens multiple times

2. DSC on any refresh rate it still happens

3. DSC off, fixes the issue and there is no more black screen.

4. Weird enough, limiting power usage of my GPU  makes the issue happen very rarely. However, switching to another screen\TV there is no more issue at any settings of GPU on the same PC.

I've disabled all the power saving features, proximity, VRR disabled and also disabled the  DDC\CI. Now I haven't managed to record it yet but, I hope this helps.

Are you using HDMI 2.1 or DP1.4?

Have you tired switching between these 2?

Yep, no help. Happens on any cable and across different PC's. But hooking another TV\Monitor to the pc with any cable fixes the problem.

Here's a video of showing the PG32UCDM black screen problem, and what it takes to get it temporarily working again........

I have tried playing around with all the settings in Final Fantasy and Space Marines 2. The black screen still continues. Human sensor feature is disabled. I always have HDR disabled. For troubleshooting purposes, I will disable DSC and VRR.

Reading through the vast 61 pages of this thread regarding the PG32UCDM's black screen problem, we can conclude that this problem can be experienced through a diverse PC video game library. I have now personally replicated this problem on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Both of these games are extremely popular. Especially Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade, with the sequel rebirth launching in 2 days on PC. So far I am easily able to replicate this on my desktop PC and Asus Rog Z13 Acronym connected to the PG32UCDM. If there is more troubleshooting that is needed let me know. I really want this fixed before the 5090 launches on the 30th of this month along with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Thanks in advance.

I think I may have stumbled upon something that could lead in a different direction.

Can you guys with this issue try the following ?

  • Download nVidia profile inspector
  • Delete or change the exe name in the profile for indiana jones or the game where you experience this issue so that the profile does not work anymore.
  • I restarted the pc, but this may not be necessary
  • Try playing the game

I found out that in games where this happened, especially indiana jones, the issue stops ocurring for me after the profile for the game is deactivated.

It could be that for certain games there is an issue with nvidia driver optimisations which causes some compatibility issues with the monitor or DSC.

Thank you for your assistance. I will test this suggestion later this evening. A review of Windows event logs at the time of the PG32UCDM's display failure revealed no Windows errors or unusual activity.
