PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!

silverbolt81
Level 11

So i am having this issue since the day i bought the monitor.

At first it was happening during a certain game, the callisto protocol.

Now it is happening also in Destiny 2.

As i am playing these games with HDR on,after some time the screen goes black and i have to manually turn the monitor off and on again in order for the image to appear again.

I had at the beggining the factory firmware, after i updated to MCM102 and now i have the 103.

This issue seems to be consistent on all firmwares.

I know it is not related to my windows setup because on the same pc with a different monitor this does not happen.

I have my pg32ucdm connected via dp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!

  1. DDC/CI = Not disabled
  2. Yes, issue seems resolved after disabling VRR in desktop environment. VRR setting on monitor is set to ON
  3. It seems to happen when the refresh goes below 48z with VRR on. It happens in games and Youtube in full screen mode using Brave Browser. Refresh rate is erratic when VRR is enabled in my Desktop environment settings.
  4. Yes, sound is not affected by this issue
  5. Yes, I have tested 3 cables: DP cable that came with monitor, DP40 cable, and now a DP80 cable.
  6. Sometimes it will recover after 3-6 seconds but other times require a power cycle of the monitor.
  7. Details
    1. PG32UCDM
    2. MCM 108
    3. Linux - CachyOS
    4. Desktop Version KDE Plasma 6.2
    5. Nvidia RTX 2080 with driver version is 565 I think (at work so not sure)
    6. The BIOS version don't know yet but the monitor works fine during the post process so I don't see how that would affect things once it gives control over to the OS.

I think in some cases, the LFC (Low Frame Compensation) is not kicking in properly which causes the monitor to crash when it goes below the minimum for AMD Freesync Premium Pro, 48hz, per AMD's documentation. If you guys could remedy that, it probably would fix a lot of these issues.

Hi @GRTim ,

Thank you for your feedback.

We understand that you are experiencing screen stuttering, flickering, or black screen issues when enabling VRR. To better assist you, we would like you to confirm the following:

  1. Refresh rate impact: Does the issue disappear when you set the display's refresh rate below 48Hz?
  2. Connection cable impact: Does the issue persist when using an HDMI cable?
  3. Previous version status: Did you encounter similar issues before updating the firmware?
  4. Refresh rate fluctuation: When you say the refresh rate is fluctuating frequently, do you mean the refresh rate value in the display's OSD menu is constantly changing?
  5. Video recording: To better understand the issue, we recommend that you record a video of the issue occurring. Please use MP4 format.

Providing this information will help our engineers analyze the problem more in-depth. Thank you.

Please note that response times may be delayed due to upcoming regional holidays. For urgent inquiries, please contact your local service center. Thank you for your patience.

  1. I will try it when I get home
  2. HDMI is not well supported on Linux yet, so I have not tried it out.
  3. Yes, the exact same thing with MCM 105
  4. Erratic Refresh Rate Per Monitor OSD
  5. Video in 4 is Youtube in full screen.

Hi @Skrounchh ,

We would like to confirm whether you have enabled the Human Sensor function. Since you mentioned that the issue occurs less frequently while gaming, we are uncertain if this might be related to your proximity to the monitor during gameplay. Could you please assist us in confirming this?

We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Please note that response times may be delayed due to upcoming regional holidays. For urgent inquiries, please contact your local service center. Thank you for your patience.

I already swapped to the 321urx MSI monitor and I couldn't be happier at this point. Haven't had a single issue with their QD OLED monitor. Aurealiannn, we've done and test everything you guys have suggested to us. You stopped responding countless pages ago, now you want us all to repost our issues?
