PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!

So i am having this issue since the day i bought the monitor.

At first it was happening during a certain game, the callisto protocol.

Now it is happening also in Destiny 2.

As i am playing these games with HDR on,after some time the screen goes black and i have to manually turn the monitor off and on again in order for the image to appear again.

I had at the beggining the factory firmware, after i updated to MCM102 and now i have the 103.

This issue seems to be consistent on all firmwares.

I know it is not related to my windows setup because on the same pc with a different monitor this does not happen.

I have my pg32ucdm connected via dp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!

I do not know why but with my setup but turning off VRR in the OS did the trick for me. There has not been a black screen in months since.

At this point, would it be worth it to just get the 321urx from MSI and call the Asus one a loss? Would it be a noticeable difference switching to the MSI variant? I play both pc and console and I know the MSI variant has lower input lag. I wouldn't have to worry about black screens during crucial game moments.

Well, personally I'm (still) not willing to call the Asus PG32UCDM a loss, because that would be a pretty tough call, especially in terms of the money. The only thing that would be an option for me is, that there will be no fix at all and to get a possible complete refund. Only then I would consider to buy another OLED like one from MSI. As I said, throwing 1.400 Euros out the window is NOT an option for me. But if you can afford to buy another 1.000+ Monitor why not. I'm going to buy an RTX 5090 on release and it seems I'm going to need just about 2.500+ for a proper costume model, hahaha.

But again, I'm still hoping for a proper solution from Asus for this issue. But it's really about time, so please devs give us something.

I do not anticipate that Asus will provide any solutions.

In October, I mentioned in a comment that I had replaced my monitor, which I purchased in April, with the same model (I had an extended warranty from Microcenter (US)). Unfortunately, the new monitor also has the same black screen issue.

Here is a workaround that works for me: set the monitor refresh rate to 120Hz in Windows settings (right mouse click => Display settings => Advanced display => Choose a refresh rate) and adjust the refresh rate for games in the Nvidia Control Panel (Manage 3D settings => Program Settings => Select a game => Max Frame Rate).

I haven't experienced the issue since I switched the monitor to 120Hz.

I don't think it's a cable issue, as the problem is reproducible with both the HDMI and DisplayPort cables from Asus. I also tried the HDMI cable from my PS5 and other cables and successfully replicated the issue.

It is likely a hardware issue when the monitor cannot consistently maintain a refresh rate of 240Hz.

I am not expecting anything from Asus. Just will wait for new monitors to be released next year and replace my monitor with something new in 2025 using an extended warranty from the retailer.

Yes, it's the same with switching off the DSC-Support in the monitor-menue. But that's nothing what I would call a workaround. When you have to switch off one of the MAIN features, namely the 240hz-support it's an absolut NOGO, because we all paid a lot of money to have a proper 32' OLED monitor with 240Hz. If I would want a 120hz monitor, which is a already a pretty old thing in the consumer monitor-market, I would pay a lot less than 1400 bucks.

Again, it's SERIOUSLY about time for Asus to communicate and solve this isse one way or the other, because in the end we're all are paying their salary in buying stuff from that brand.

I bought this monitor a few days ago and I've just started experiencing this exact issue. The screen has been running without issue for a few days but now this 5 second black out is occurring every 45 minutes or so.

The only thing I can point to is that I don't turn it off, I leave it on standby. I've already updated to firmware 105 and I am on a fresh windows install with the latest drivers.

Are Asus not providing any support for these screens? If they aren't actively releasing updates and addressing issues, I'm going to return this and buy another brand. As everyone else has commented, paying 4 figures for what feels like a rushed to market, broken product which is not receiving support is not acceptable.

I am going to buy a Gigabyte while black Friday is still running, just in case Asus decides that their customers can go fvck themselves.

Hey there,

I recommend returning it, as I have had this issue since April with no resolution from Asus.

I can still return it for a full refund and buy another brand. You've had this issue since April and Asus have done nothing?!?!?!? Certainly sounds like appalling customer service.

Hey Asus, without customers you have nothing.

Just a little heads up. If this issue is not fixed and you are withing 1 year of purchase.

After proceeding an RMA and if you still have black screen.

Your issue will not be fixed regardless of how many RMA they will send you.

You will be offered a refund of the product value. (Within 1 year in full)

After 1 year ASUS are allowed to offer you a partial refund.

So I recommend you do your RMA/Replacement to then proceed to a refund within a year of your purchase.

(US/CANADA)

Sounds like a return and another brand is the way to go.
