PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!

So i am having this issue since the day i bought the monitor.

At first it was happening during a certain game, the callisto protocol.

Now it is happening also in Destiny 2.

As i am playing these games with HDR on,after some time the screen goes black and i have to manually turn the monitor off and on again in order for the image to appear again.

I had at the beggining the factory firmware, after i updated to MCM102 and now i have the 103.

This issue seems to be consistent on all firmwares.

I know it is not related to my windows setup because on the same pc with a different monitor this does not happen.

I have my pg32ucdm connected via dp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!

I appreciate the help. But having users to cut their refresh rate to 120Hz in windows to then switch to 240Hz while gaming is simply not *REAL* solution. I mean it can work but I would not call that a solution. Since you running your monitor UNDER SPEC when it should be able to handle it just fine.

If the mobo or panel is unstable then it would black screen in windows.

From experience with Samsung panels:

Black screen in Windows is usually a lemon (Not always but a very high change)

Black screen in gaming is usually a drivers/FW issues (Taking in account all basic troubleshooting was done since it can still be defective)

Black screen in both windows and while gaming I would RMA.

One thing I'm still testing and validating since I have to troubleshooting in control environment to avoid false positives is the power management option in the NVIDIA control panel.

If you have black screen only during gaming. I would suggest you do include in your troubleshooting:

- Basic troubleshooting ( cables, ports, etc...)

- Power management on your specific game from Normal --> Prefer maximum performance (NOT GLOBAL SETTINGS)

Like I said I'm still testing this option for specific games that I have reproduce black screen. AND it good results so far. Altho not 100% confirm. I do have some belief  that this option to switch to Prefer maximum performance will help you with this monitor. Since it did help nullified my black screen on specific reproducible parts.

I still have a 1 week or  2 to really validate this option as a potential avenue to fix this issues with ASUS team  or normal users.

I would ask most users if you are having black screen on PC try to put the power management to PFM on that specific game.

(Personally I only have black screen during gaming in specific games not all my games.)

Thanks

Hey there,

Of course it’s not a real solution, but it works for me since I’m only getting the black screen issue in non-gaming scenarios, and 120Hz is more than enough for browsing, etc.

For me, the culprit was the OS VRR implementation. Once I turned that off, my problems have not resurfaced. I recently updated my desktop manager to KDE Plasma 6.2 and turned the VRR back on but it almost immediately black screened watching a Youtube video at full screen. Again, the monitors refresh was all over the place before it happened. I suspect it black screens when the VRR refresh is out of range, ie drops below a threshold. Typically, when this happens either two things occur: the monitor loses signal, and I have to restart the desktop manager to get it back or it goes black for 5-10 seconds and then comes back on.

Other things I have done to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Bought a higher quality DP cable

2. Changed the port the cable plugged in to the graphics card. It is now using port 1, which is the highest priority port and first detected and initialized. It is the port furthest to the right if you are looking at the back of the computer.

3. Turned off VRR in the monitor settings. This didn't prevent anything

4. Turned off proximity sensor. Didn't do anything

5. Blew out the graphics card ports, monitor port, and cable ends with compressed air to make sure everything has a good quality connection

I have not tried turning off DSC yet because I haven't had any events since I turned off the VRR in the OS settings. I am really a firm believer that the issue is somehow related to the monitor's VRR implementation. Is this just happening with Nvidia cards or are users reporting the same issue with AMD cards?

Tim

EDIT:

Just wanted to share what cable I am using for this monitor just in case it might help someone out.

Cable Matters model 102065 DP2.1 40Gbps 4K@240hz 8K@120hz DIsplayPort.Org certified $15 on Amazon.

@Aureliannn_ROG any updates on the investigation of this issue yet?

I've messaged another support agent in other thread and he said he can't help because Aureliann is the point of contact for this issue......I think we are being ghosted.

I also have this issue and I tried a lot ot different things and most of them were already mentioned in this thread. The only thing that seems to work is to switch OFF the "DSC-Support" on the monitors OSD. As we all know, this cuts down the refresh rate to 120 Hz. Of course this cannot be a proper solution, because the 240 hz support is a major feature of the PG32UCDM. Btw, so far this blackscreen issue only appeared for me while gaming and not on all games. But this is an issue that MUST be fixed by ASUS, because we are talking about a really huge technical problem in general and if you consider that this monitor is a high price premium product that's even more an absolute NOGO for us costumers. It's time for some serious communications and more important for a proper solution my dear developers.

I have a similar issue, but it never happens randomly - only on startup. Like 30% of the time at startup, the monitor is black and doesn't respond when pressing the menu button on the monitor. I have to unplug and plug in the DisplayPort cable - then everything comes alive and works.

It's happened like 7 times now.

Try using the HDMI cable in order to avoid false positive while troubleshooting.

My update:

since installing the specific log firmware, I have NO issues anymore.

If you have issues, send a PM to Aureliannn_ROG and ask for this firmware version

I followed the steps carefully and since then, NO MORE blackouts..

Happy user of this panel!

I had installed the log firmware as well and after 2 weeks Ive never seen so many black screens back to back, so I went back to 105 without log firmware and to be expected I still get them. At this point I think I’ll RMA and sell the monitor and I’m tired of spending hours troubleshooting with support ain’t even helping anymore.
