PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!

So i am having this issue since the day i bought the monitor.

At first it was happening during a certain game,the callisto protocol.

Now it is happening also in Destiny 2.

As i am playing these games with HDR on,after some time the screen goes black and i have to manually turn the monitor off and on again in order for the image to appear again.

I had at the beggining the factory firmware,after i updated to MCM102 and now i have the 103.

This issue seems to be consistent on all firmwares.

I know it is not related to my windows setup because on the same pc with a different monitor this does not happen.

I have my pg32ucdm connected via dp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!

According to your description, you are experiencing black screen issues when switching between SDR and HDR. 

We would like to remind you that a brief black screen may occur during the switching process, which is normal. 

Typically, the screen should return to normal display within 1 to 2 seconds after the switch. 

  1. Could you please clarify if the black screen persists for 1 to 2 seconds after the switch and how long it takes for the display to come back? 
  2. Additionally, you mentioned that the black screen issue occurs even when using the file manager. How long does this black screen issue last? 
  3. Do you need to reconnect the DP cable? 
  4. Please provide a video of the issue for our reference. Having a video will assist our team in analyzing the problem. 

Also, please confirm if you are using the DP cable provided by the manufacturer and provide the current device model.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I have experienced the issue switching SDR -> HDR and the reverse, it is not the normal image blackout from switching I am aware of that, it last much longer than 1-2 seconds, typically after about 30 seconds I restart my PC and it corrects things.  I experience it more consistently when switching HDR modes via the monitor OSD (which then disappears and is unresponsive as noted).  It has also done it when no switching has occurred and I am just viewing things in normal SDR content (although only happened once)...it lasted about 40-50 seconds and eventually the picture returned. Per the original post I am using the display port cable provided by Asus in the box. I will attempt to record a video of the issue but it is so intermittent that without recording constantly it will be hard to capture. I haven't actually had my problem occur yet while gaming but it is good to know that it is still being looked at and the team is testing, that is what I was looking for. I appreciate you posting updates on this.

thank you for your response. 

  1. According to your issue, we suggest performing cross-tests using other graphics cards or monitors to determine if the issue is related to specific hardware. 
  2. Additionally, we would like to know the model of the MB/GPU/CPU you are using. 
  3. Regarding the black screen issue in SDR mode, does it occur during regular usage as well? 
  4. Also, could you provide the OSD settings of the monitor? You can try resetting the OSD settings of the monitor to default and observe if the issue still occurs. 

We understand that the black screen issue is intermittent and does not happen every time. However, if possible, we recommend providing a video for our reference. Our backend team has not been able to replicate the black screen issue. The video will assist our team in analyzing and confirming the problem.

If you are experiencing black screen issues with an ASUS graphics card paired with the PG32UCDM, please provide the following information to assist us in our investigation:

  • Graphics card model
  • Please private message me the serial number of the graphics card
  • BIOS version
  • BIOS settings
  • CPU/DRAM, slot positions, HDD, VGA, PSU models
  • OS version
  • Graphic card driver version
  • Audio driver version
  • Chipset driver version
  • If possible, please provide a video of the black screen issue occurring for our reference.
  1. Did you update to the latest BIOS version?
  2. Did you update the latest official driver version?
  3. Did you update non-ASUS driver( the latest thrird-party vendor driver?
  4. If you crosscheck the other motherboards/graphics card/monitor,  did the issue will occur? What's the model name?

    As I've posted here, I'm encountering the same black screen issue on my PS5, True Black HDR 400, using the PS5's HDMI 2.1 cable.

to all users who are still experiencing black screen issues, we suggest you use the method we provide (enable FPS feature in game))to confirm whether the FPS value will continue to be displayed on the screen when the black screen issue occurs, or if the entire screen will be black.

Please assist us in confirming this. If you can provide a video of the issue occurring, it will be helpful for our backend team to investigate.

Our backend team is currently testing the games "Baldur's Gate 3" and "Destiny 2" and have accumulated 16 hours of gameplay without any issues while using HDR testing (testing conditions are FW103, 3840x2160@240hz, HDR enabled, G-Sync enabled, DP cable, full screen display).

I forgot to mention on the pm that slot position for the ram is DIMM_A2/DIMM_B2

I just sent my information. Hopefully, this issue will be resolved in the following BIOS or combination with an Asus GPU BIOS update.

I'm having the same issue. I use mine for both my PS5 and my pc. Some days, I have no issue at all. Other days, it'll go black about 4 or 5 times in a few hour span. My screen stays black until I power the monitor off and on again. This is a very frustrating issue, especially given the cost of the monitor! I hope this is software related, and I really hope we get an update on the issue at hand soon!
