PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!

silverbolt81
Level 11

So i am having this issue since the day i bought the monitor.

At first it was happening during a certain game, the callisto protocol.

Now it is happening also in Destiny 2.

As i am playing these games with HDR on,after some time the screen goes black and i have to manually turn the monitor off and on again in order for the image to appear again.

I had at the beggining the factory firmware, after i updated to MCM102 and now i have the 103.

This issue seems to be consistent on all firmwares.

I know it is not related to my windows setup because on the same pc with a different monitor this does not happen.

I have my pg32ucdm connected via dp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!

Hi all,

thank you for providing the information.

Currently, our backend team is still investigating the replication issue. Based on your description, we understand that the problem occurs sporadically, rather than consistently.

In order to determine whether the issue is a hardware or software problem, could you please assist us by enabling the FPS feature in the game?

When the black screen issue occurs, does the FPS value still appear on the screen?

Or does the entire screen turn black without displaying the FPS?

Enable FPS:

OSD/Gaming/GamePlus/FPS Counter/Number

During the investigation process, if possible, could you provide us with a video of the black screen issue for our reference?

Having a video will allow our team to have a more detailed understanding of the situation in which the problem occurs.

Thank you for your assistance.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

My configurations are straight out the box the only thing I change was to gaming/console  mode and set the pixel cleaning timing remimder from 8 hrs to 4 hrs .Had about a good 3 weeks maybe a month then the problem started about a week ago .... Now its bad to the point where competitive gaming is not fun  any more.... but the visuals are to die for lol .....hopefully an update fix soon ....thank you

also from what I''m readfy it might be that firmware M103 update

update I think I reset my monitor (not to sure on that) .but I did switch to an 8k hdmi cord was using the 2.1 hdmi that came in the box ... day 2 no black screen so far finger cross for a millions more days ....love this moniter ... I pulled out my old asus and when I mean night and day difference... made me feel like I was playing on a big back tv from the early 90s ...lol but on a serious notes ..I'm a console gamer so no specs really just plug and play ......hopefully this will be some help and also a fix ........

I did another firmware flash to test variances between flashing with SDR as default and testing both SDR and HDR after the firmware flash.  If you flash with the latest firmware.  The video display will turn off and then turn off after 3 seconds.  Now, if you turn Windows 11 to HDR, the display will NOT turn off, and the proximity sensor works.

MCM103 can cover any past FW version
MCM103 can be updated from all previous firmware versions, including 302, 102, 301, and 101
Bugfixes:
1.Resolved the issue where enabling HDR would deactivate the screen protection.   (this is now the issue is reverse; the screen turns off when Windows is set to Non-HDR content land Proximity sensor set to High)

Hope this helps in providing more details in fixing the firmware. Whatever content is displayed from SDR and HDR triggers the display to turn off.

Hi Aureliannn_Rog - is there Any update on troubleshooting this issue and finding a resolution on ASUS's end?

Check your proximity sensor settings

13900KS / 8000 CAS36 / ROG APEX Z790 / ROG TUF RTX 4090

Yea, proximity sensor may be the reason. Since I did "All reset", the proximity sensor should be set as default which is "off" if I'm correct. That's why I haven't encountered black screen these days. Thx.

Yesterday i turned it off and i will be monitoring to see if it was the culprit..

Thanks for the tip..

The monitor will still turn off even with the proximity sensor turned off.  With motion, it turns back on after a few seconds.
