PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!

So i am having this issue since the day i bought the monitor.

At first it was happening during a certain game, the callisto protocol.

Now it is happening also in Destiny 2.

As i am playing these games with HDR on,after some time the screen goes black and i have to manually turn the monitor off and on again in order for the image to appear again.

I had at the beggining the factory firmware, after i updated to MCM102 and now i have the 103.

This issue seems to be consistent on all firmwares.

I know it is not related to my windows setup because on the same pc with a different monitor this does not happen.

I have my pg32ucdm connected via dp.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated!!

Hey all! I had the black screen happen again while playing on PC, so this has not only happened on ps5 but also pc for me. I really hope this can be fixed because I don’t want to deal with RMA process if the replacement has black screens as well. 😞

Very sad to see such a premium product having so much issues.

Hey @Silent_Scone,

Please let us know if you have any updates on the issue. I wonder if Asus is aware of it and working on a fix.

If you're not the right person to ask about the updates, please let me know who I should contact.

Thanks

This is a good thread - I can confirm I have the following issue:

@Startup
BIOS > Windows Loading > Blank (and unresponsive)

@aftersleep
Occasionally Blank (and unresponsive)

This is inconsistent and sometimes it's flawless, and other times I need to cycle on and off the power. For this reason I've turned back on the Power LED so I can confirm when the monitor is off, and then back on.

Also important to note - consistent with others on this thread, the OSD is not accessible during these blank-out times, pressing any buttons and/or the joystick does not bring up any menus.

Hoping this can be resolved via Firmware update, there is a lack of availability of this monitor in Australia but I will happily Warranty return this once stock returns if this is unresolved.

Notes:

  • I am connected to my PC via the included ASUS DP 1.4 cable to an RTX 3080
  • Firmware MCM103
  • Full wipe and reinstall of Windows 11 undertaken
  • I only use my monitor in SDR mode

Specs

  • CPU: Ryzen 3900XT
  • Mobo: ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (WI-FI) - Updated the BIOS during troubleshooting
  • GPU: ASUS RTX 3080 Strix OC
  • RAM: Corsair 3600mhz DDR4
  • PSU: Corsair AX1200i

You should return it. I bought mine from Scorptec and its almost $3,000 with shipping and insurance. It's really A LOT for a monitor. Mine has been good no issues so far except for that HDR blacking out in Helldivers 2 game. Your issue shouldn't be happening. If it's a $200 dollar unit from Temu I can understand but this is a luxury product and seems like you got a lemon.

In Australia, each state and territory has its own tribunal system similar to VCAT (Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal). These tribunals provide accessible, efficient, and low-cost forums for resolving disputes, including consumer issues. Here are the equivalent tribunals in other states and territories:

  1. New South Wales (NSW):

    • NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT): NCAT handles a wide range of disputes including consumer claims, tenancy issues, and administrative reviews.

Hope it helps.

You are right, also. Something is also affecting information from SDR mode and HDR.

Hi, I started experiencing this same issue today when playing on my PS5, with FF7 Rebirth. I was running Display HDR 400 True Black

Multiple times now, the screen would turn black but there's still audio coming out of the monitor. The only fix was to turn off then on the monitor.

Any updates regarding the fix?

Hi all,

So yesterday i got delivered my new PG32UCDM, got it set up - stuck the HDMI cable it came with to my Asus 4090 graphics card, excited to try out 4k gaming at long last - started up Cyberpunk 2077 updated the graphic setting to allow for 4k after also updating Windows 11 to HDR - I cant play for more than 5 or so mins before the screen goes black and it takes me to the desktop and I have to click back into the game.

I have tried to play other games to see if that makes any difference and sadly it does not, the same problem as the above keeps occurring.  I tried another game at the old graphic settings i.e. not 4k but 1920 x 1080 and that makes no difference, after 5 mins or so black screen then desktop shows and the game is still running and I click back into the game. - I cant see that anyone has come across any fixes, so is it a case of just waiting and not playing on PC for a few weeks or month till a firmware fix comes out?  😞

Hi all so as a follow up to my message above. I tried one last thing and changed my power setting on pc to high performance. I managed to play Overwatch 2 in 4k for over 2 hours no black screens. So considering it was every 5 mins I think (fingers crossed) it’s all good now.
