PG27UCDM Randomly Turns On After Shutdown

I recently got the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM, and I’m experiencing a weird power issue. Here’s what’s happening:

The Issue

When I turn off the monitor normally, I hear a mechanical circuit shutdown sound (which I assume is normal since the power adapter is built into the monitor).

But after some random period, I hear a circuit activation sound, and the monitor’s power light turns back on.

When this happens, one of two things occurs:

The monitor enters standby mode with an orange light.

The monitor turns on along with the red laser lights at the bottom and stays that way.

In both cases, the screen doesn’t fully turn on, but the monitor is clearly receiving power.

It seems there is no way to turn fully off without unplugging the power chord.

What I’ve Tried

Waited more than 20 minutes → The monitor never turned off.

Factory reset → Didn’t fix it.

Disabled the Neo Proximity Sensor → No change.

Disconnected all cables except power (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB) → Issue still persists.

Checked ASUS’s website for firmware updates → I’m on the latest version / there is no firmware yet.

What Could Be Happening?

I know the monitor has an automatic pixel cleaning feature, but this behavior happens even long after it should be done.

It seems like a power circuit issue, since it randomly turns on by itself after being shut down.

Has anyone else experienced this with the PG27UCDM? Any solutions or workarounds? Would appreciate any insights.

Thanks!

Hi @shamancan @Phil1210 @smos3 @14vz @buzz9 @Draklane ,

We sincerely apologize that you are experiencing the issue of the display's orange light remaining on after the screen is turned off.

We have submitted this issue to the backend technical team for analysis and confirmation. In the meantime, please help confirm the following:

  1. Connection method: Does this problem occur with both HDMI and DP connections?
  2. Shutdown process: Regardless of whether you use manual shutdown or enter standby mode first, does the display operate according to the following process? (Turn off first > orange light turns on > "no signal" message appears > display turns black > orange light remains on)
  3. Orange light off method: Do you need to replug the cables or use the function keys to turn off the display for the orange light to go out?
  4. Video provision: If you have a video of the problem occurrence process, please provide it in MP4 file format for our reference so that the team can clearly confirm the problem.
  5. Device information: Please provide your current device model (PC, GPU, CPU, etc.), driver versions, operating system (OS) version, and BIOS version.

Your detailed information will help us quickly clarify the problem. Thank you for your cooperation.

i got an update .

i tried to shut down pc and the i turned off monitor.

then i plugged of the video input ( in my case the dp cable) and my monitor didnt turned on by itself.

so i thought that changing in bios some setting like , wake pcie , wake lan or ERP ready could help.

im testing

maybe some power coming from motherboard could turn on the monitor.

hope i can help with that

Hi all,

after confirmation, our team is aware of this issue and is actively working on a solution.

To prevent this issue from occurring, we recommend the following shutdown method while in standby mode: Press the Power key once, and when the LED indicator turns off, the device has successfully shut down.

Please avoid using the sequence "Open the Standby menu > Press the Power key > Select Turn Off", as this may trigger the issue.

We appreciate your patience, and we will notify you as soon as there are any updates.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

This is not true. every day i shut down my pc, then the monitor goes into standby .. after that i press one time the power off button and the monitor is off. but every morning the orange light is light up again ..so this trick is also not helping .. hope some firmware update can solve it

Hi,

Clearly, your team confirmed the issue and stated that a firmware fix was in development. However, the recently released firmware still does not resolve the problem. This is unacceptable.

It’s extremely disappointing that after all this time, the issue persists. Releasing a firmware update that fails to fix a known and acknowledged flaw shows a lack of commitment to your customers. Temporary workarounds are not a solution. They're just a way to avoid responsibility.

Frankly, my trust in ASUS has significantly dropped. I expected better support and accountability from a brand of this caliber. If this is how issues are handled, it’s hard to justify choosing ASUS again in the future.

Best regards.

Agreed. For such an expensive monitor to have problems with basic function is disappointing and the team's response and development of a fix is even worse.

I also hope that a quick firmware update will be provided. This is the first time I've had a basic shutdown issue with a monitor. The worst part is that it's happening on a high-end monitor.

I got this monitor yesterday and I have the same issue. I turn off my PC, wait 20sec, then turn off the monitor and it ends up turning itself back on in the orange stand-by mode and just stays there.

I found a way my monitor stays off at night but it takes a while, here are the steps I do every night.
1. I perform a manual pixel clean.
2. Turn off my computer and wait 30 seconds.
3. Press the monitor power button once then wait around 6-8 min for the monitor to go in standby.
4. Once it goes in standby mode wait 1 min then press the power button once (usually this isn't recognized by the monitor and nothing happens, but sometimes it does.)
4. Wait 1min more then press the power button one last time.
Really annoying process that takes around 15mins when I shouldn't have to do this at all. I'm really hoping this can be fixed.
I'm in Canada and couldn't find anywhere to email to ASUS about it this issue but I did find a number to call.
I was on the phone for over an hour trouble shooting with a technician. She wanted me to try a different cable, reset all settings on the monitor and make sure I have the latest firmware. None of this fixed the issue or changed anything. She wanted me to send the monitor in but I said I wanted to wait a bit for a firmware update or something because I've been waiting for the monitor since January and just got it.
