PG27UCDM Pixel Clean Times not counting

Domingos

Hi. Just got my PG27UCDM and have been testing everything and found two quircks problems:

1. In OLED care -> OLED Usage Info -> Pixel Clean Times is not counting all the times I perform manual Pixel Cleaning (6 min). It currently shows only one, and I have done at least 3 manual Pixel Cleanings (I imagine the monitor did a few more automatic ones after it entered standby after laptop shutdown). Is this count accurate? Should I be worried in case someday I try to claim screen warranty, like in 3 years time?

2. In Image -> OLED Anti-Flicker is greyed out. I looked online and it seems it's because I'm using HDMI and it only works via DisplayPort. Is this correct? Seems weird as HDMI 2.1 has more bandwidth as DisplayPort 1.4. My laptop has a 4090 only with mini-DP so I cannot test the DP 1.4 version with provided cable. But is this correct?

3. The MyFavorite -> Customized Setting -> Setting 1 and 2 seems useless.. I wanted to save all the settings as they are for SDR (sRGB) and HDR usage but it doesn't even save the Color -> Colot Temp. -> User -> RGB modified values correctly. They are just saved as all 100... Maybe a future firmware might fix this. I just wanted to save these 2 settings (SDR and HDR): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CzgGB0kFJk

Thanks!

Hi @Domingos ,

Thank you for your inquiry. We would like to inform you that the OLED anti-flicker feature is only available when the input source is DisplayPort or USB-C.

Regarding the pixel cleaning issue, if you perform a manual cleaning, the steps are as follows:

  • Through the OSD, perform the following operations: System Setup -> Screen Saver -> Pixel Cleaning -> On (ON) During the cleaning process, the screen will display a completely black screen, and the indicator light will continuously flash yellow. Once the cleaning is complete, the screen will automatically turn on, and the indicator light will change to solid red. Does your monitor not increase the count after the screen automatically turns on? [LCD Monitor] ROG OLED Gaming Monitor Pixel cleaning process. | Official Support | ROG Global

Regarding the custom settings issue, we would like to confirm whether this problem has occurred since the initial purchase. Have you tried restoring the monitor to factory settings and then checking again?

Please assist us in confirming these details, thank you.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you.

Hi @Aureliannn_ROG,

Regarding the Pixel Cleaning issue I figures out the problem: I can confirm that during the cleaning process, the screen will display a completely black screen, and the indicator light will continuously flash yellow. But at the end is where the problem lies. If the computer screen timeout is set for 10m, the screen will automatically turn on to desktop, and the indicator light will change to solid red -> this scenario counts the pixel cleaning in the OSD (OLED care). BUT, if screen timeout is set to 5 min as I had before, the laptop will turn off screens in the middle of the pixel cleaning, and when cleaning finishes and screen automatically turns on, indicator light changes to solid red, it shows "HDMI no signal input" (as expected), and then screen turns off and the indicator light will change to solid orange as in normal standby -> inn this last scenario OSD (OLED care) DOES NOT count the pixel cleaning process. But the whole process still run just fine and as expected. So I believe it is just some sort of screen firmware bug which in that situation of screen timeout below the 6mins of pixel cleaning process will not increase the OSD counter.

Regarding the custom settings issue, the problem has always occurred since the initial purchase. I had never factory resetted the monitor in OSD, but I did it twice now, saved both SDR (Setting 1) and HRD (Setting 2) settings again, and the problem still persists. If I am in SDR mode (almost all the time) and turn HDR on in Windows, I can load Setting 2 and get all my saved HDR settings. But then if I turn HDR off in windows, my SDR settings all turned to my originally selected except for Color -> Color Temp. -> User wich shows RGBs all at 100. If I then load Settting 1 to see if it replaces those with my custom RGBs settings of 95 99 and 100 (saved into Settings 1), it simply does nothing and maintain all RGBs at 100. In other words, saving settings on Setting 1 and 2, saves all settings except the  Color -> Color Temp. -> User -> RGBs values.

One other thing, I don't think my neo proximity senor is working. I have OLED Care -> Neo Proximity Sensor -> Distance Selection -> Max. 60cm and if I leave my desk the screen never turns off until the OSD defined time out of 5 min. I have checked the Tailored Mode and I am at 60cm from the sensor, and when I leave my desk the sensor indeed measures a max distance of 120cm. Wasn't the screen supposed to turn off immediately when someone leaves the desk and the neo sensor line-of-sight?

Thanks,

J

Hi, I'm from Italy and I have the same monitor ( sorry for my english ),the screen does not turn off immediately as they want you to believe from the technical characteristics and demonstration videos. The monitor turns off exactly after the time you establish within the OSD (otherwise there would be no need to choose between 1, 5 and 10 minutes).

I have already returned a monitor of this model due to sudden black screens during gaming sessions (which do not happen with the other monitor I have AW3225QF). The second one I'm testing doesn't seem to be affected by this problem, it must be said that however I'm using a different DP cable from the one supplied in the package and I wouldn't want the problem to be due to that. Regarding pixel cleaning, I still haven't figured out when the warning comes out? It never came out for me, even if I set the reminder every 4 hours it doesn't suggest it to me.

Hi @antonio89,

- yeah the proximity sensor is still not working for me either - like you say it only turn off at the OSD established time (5min for me)

- I have only used provided HDMI cable and never had any "sudden black screens" during gaming sessions or not.

- Regaridng pixing cleaning, I have my warning set for default 8 ours, and it always shows up - the usual "Would you like to execute pixel cleaning ?" yes/no window shows up on the bottom right corner of the screen. Anyway, I do more regular manual pixel cleanings than that

I think that the proximity sensor works correctly anyway... the demonstrations video are not accurate or maybe a different firmware installed

@Aureliannn_ROG

So, the proximity sensor actually works fine. I was just thinking the wrong way.

Just choose the screen timeout of 1 minute in OSD for your distance (60cm for me), and after 1 minute it will turn screen off. If you come back to the desk it will turn on automatically right away. So it is working fine. I just thought the screen timeout setting was something unrelated to the sensor, but it actually is the running time since sensor stops detecting you.

So, the only problem I have with the screen so far is really the custom SDR (Setting 1) and HRD (Setting 2) settings I just wanted to be saved and automatically chosen when I go into SDR and HDR mode respectively - and I'm talking mainly about the Color -> Color Temp. -> User -> RGBs values which are the ones not being saved and show all as 100 no matter what.

could you post your settings for both? SDR and HDR?

Not sure i'm using it in the right way for gaming...

Hi @Domingos ,

Thank you for your continued cooperation.

Regarding the issue you mentioned about the inability to save custom color settings (RGB values) in SDR and HDR modes, please provide a screenshot of the OSD displaying RGB values set to 100 for our reference.

We will submit the screenshot and related information you provide to the backend team for detailed confirmation.

Thank you for your assistance and patience.
