PG27AQDP heavy color banding/posterization in HDR

Hi,

I bought the PG27AQDP recently and when I switched the display to HDR using windows, I've immediately noticed that the image suffers from heavy color banding and other color artifacts as per pictures below (is seems similar, but more pronounced as the issue reported here😞

My system is as follows:Hardware configurationHardware configuration

 Operating system is:

  • Windows 11 Pro, 24H2, Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100.
  • GPU driver version 565.90 (Oct. 1, 2024).

I don't think there is any misconfiguration of my graphics card, that would cause the issue:

GPU settingsGPU settings

 What I already tried:

  • HDMI and DisplayPort cables delivered with the monitor.
  • Different HDMI and DisplayPort cables.
  • Changing bit depth to 8 and 10 bit.
  • Enabling the HDR using different OS (Windows 10 Pro).
  • Connecting different display and enabling HDR there (Sony Bravia TV, HDR works without any issues).
  • Using Windows HDR Calibration application.
  • Changing display HDR mode (Console HDR, Cinema HDR, Gaming HDR, DisplayHDR 400 True Black).
  • Enabling/disabling the DSC.
  • Enabling/disabling G-SYNC.
  • Lowering display refresh rate down to 60Hz.
  • Update display firmware (MCM102 -> MCM103).
  • Using Adjustable HDR and changing brightness, contrast and other setting.

However none of the changes mentioned above have fixed the issue. If I had to speculate, it seems like the display scaler chip is stuck in some very low color bit depth, or it is missing HDR configuration/calibration data. I do not observe any such issue in SDR mode.

Could anyone from the ASUS team (@MasterC) let me know, if this is known issue? Is there for example a new firmware in the works that would fix this issue, or should I rather RMA it?

Regards,

Karel

Update - I did try to use integrated (intel) graphics card, but I got the same results as mentioned in the OP, the display is so far unusable in HDR mode.
