PG27AQDM grey stain / image retention

Hi,

I have the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM for about six months now with no previous issue.

3 days ago a large grey stain appeared on the screen permanently and is visible when the monitor is on, on Windows or in game. I don't see any physical damage to the screen when turned off and the stain doesn't appear when a black background is displayed.

I have tried to launch several pixel cleaning, 7 in a row, and the stain is still present. I also tried to unplug the power cable for 7 hours + several pixel cleaning with no result.

I'm using last firmware update: MCM109.

What can cause this issue ? Is the monitor permanantly damaged ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Your english is NOT bad:-)

Yes exactly...Powered on, but sleep mode. Orange light on.

I did exactly what you are doing. Turned monitor off when not in use. This showed to be the problem.

By chance I had the monitor plugged in only to the power supply for 5 days not using it. And voila, it was back to nice OLED shine we all want:-). I actually continued turning it off completely after that, with the result that the misty, cloudy  stuff returning within only a couple of days. At some point I started to suspect the issue might be because of that.

Now I NEVER turn the monitor off. Just my PC.

Anyways... there is very little science in how I have approached it:-)...trial/error in frustration:-)

Hope it works...but I bet it will.

Hi @Rbrodin ,

Thank you for contacting us. To help us better troubleshoot your display issue, we would like you to confirm the following:

  1. Connection check: Please double-check that the connection between the display and your computer is secure. We recommend that you try replacing the display cable and using a different input interface (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) to test and rule out the possibility of a cable or interface failure.
  2. Firmware update impact: Did this issue occur after updating the firmware to version 1.0.9? Or did it already exist before?
  3. Resolution and refresh rate adjustment: Try adjusting the resolution and refresh rate of the display to see if it improves the issue.
  4. Pixel cleanup: We recommend that you try using the display's pixel cleanup function. You can refer to the following link for more detailed pixel cleanup operation steps: [LCD Monitor] ASUS OLED Monitor Protection Mechanism & Warranty Service | Official Support | ASUS Gl...  [LCD Monitor] ROG OLED Gaming Monitor Pixel cleaning process. | Official Support | ROG Global

Thank you.

Hi Rbrodin

Long story short...had my ordeal with this monitor. Have you by any chance started turning your monitor completely off?

What asus dont tell you with this monitor, is that that will course this problem. For me it did at least.

Try leaving your monitor in sleep mode for a day or so. Fixed it for me. I've been through two RMA,s until I discovered what I did wrong. NEVER turn it completely off.

🙂

Hope it helps

Thank you Mal60, I will try what has worked for you.

I apologize for my bad english, but just to be sure, when you recommand leaving the monitor in sleep mod for a day or more, do you mean the mod with orange light (vs red light when it's turned on) or completly unplug the power cable ?

Maybe I'm wrongly using it but when I go AFK for a short period, I often turn the monitor off to prevent image rentention. Is that what may have caused the issue ?

I'm curious  Rbrodin

How did it work out?

Happy holidays:-)

Problem solved, you were right Mal60.

It took some times because we've had a strong use of the PC during holidays so it was hard to get time to "rest" the monitor.

By the way, sleep mode didn't do the trick at first so I started to unplugged the power cable to leave the monitor completely off.

The grey mark disappaered yesterday.

Thank you again for help

I'm glad it did the trick for you:-) Wonder what the difference is. I've addressed this to Asus, but have not received an answer really. Guess we never find out.
