PG27AQDM Base LED doesn't turn on since MCM107

Hello,

I've already created a thread talking about my issues with MCM107 compared to MCM105 with very little feedback, but i wanted to create a separate thread highlighting a consistent issue which may be easier to replicate and may be connected to the issues i'm having in the hope we get a fix.

So now since MCM107 the base LED turns off when i turn my PC off (i like this behaviour) however when i turn my PC back on the LED (most of the time) doesn't turn on, when i say most of the time, what i mean is it might come back on after an initial reboot or boot up, but inevitably it will not come on after one or two boots then it will stay off until i turn the monitor on/off again, rinse and repeat.

This should be easy and obvious behaviour to replicate if you are using the stand the monitor comes with, so unless something is faulty with my monitor i assume a very quick test will confirm this behaviour, if it hasn't already been confirmed.

It appears that most people are now satisfied with the HDR colour accuracy, but there's just a few issues that the last two firmware's have introduced that did not exist on MCM105, highlighted here.

Can i at least get confirmation that Asus are working to fix these issues, or is it something wrong at my end that i can try?

Got the exact same issue over here. Turns off when I shut down my pc, does not turn back on when booting it back up. Going into the menu to switch it off and back on doesn't work. Only way to turn it back on is to turn off the monitor and turn it back off. Definitely not something just on your end, had no issues on MCM105 and it started the moment I updated to MCM107.

Hi @markob53 @Neal ,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the issue you are experiencing with the RGB lighting on the base of your PG27AQDM monitor not working properly after updating to firmware version 107.

To better understand the issue, we would like to confirm the following:

  1. Does this issue only occur with firmware version 107?
  2. What type of cable are you currently using to connect the monitor? Are you using the original cable that came with the monitor?
  3. Can you please record a video of the issue occurring and send it to us? The video will help us better understand the problem. (Please provide the video in its original MP4 format.)
  4. Are all of the OSD settings on the monitor currently set to their default values? If not, please reset the settings to their defaults and try again.
  5. Please provide the model/driver, firmware version, BIOS, and OS information for all currently connected devices.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

1. I've only witnessed it on 107, didn't use 106 for long enough to test it and on 105 it never happened once, but on 105 the LED just stayed on all the time, it didn't switch itself off when the monitor went into standby like on 107.

2. I'm using the DP cable that came with the monitor, i've tried to use a different cable with no luck.

3. I can post a video later tonight but really it wouldn't provide any more detail that already provided, the light is currently off on my monitor despite it being set to on in the OSD.

4. The OSD settings have been reset multiple times and the firmware has been flashed multiple times, sometimes i even notice when i hit 'All Reset' it doesn't even reset and i have to do it again until it actually resets.

5. Please see https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-monitors/pg27aqdm-unstable-since-mcm106/td-p/1024805 this thread for all of my specs, software and firmware versions etc. I also have Razer mouse software running and iCUE software running.

I repeat, this and all of my other issues never happened on 105, flashing back to it fixes everything without me having to alter a thing, but then i miss out on the improved HDR.

Hi @markob53 @Neal ,

Thank you for providing the information.

To help our engineering team identify the root cause of the base LED not lighting up issue, we kindly request you to provide the following:

  • Provide a video: providing a video showing the base LED not lighting up upon reboot (please provide the video in MP4 format)
  • Product serial number and serial number: kindly provide the product serial number and the screenshot of the OSD menu via private messege.

Thank you.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

Hello,

Is a YouTube video acceptable? Unfortunately i couldn't replicate the behaviour showing the light on prior to turning the PC off then it not coming on when turning the PC on, both times i recorded when i shut down and turned on my PC the LED successfully came back on, although the gap between turning the PC off and turning it back on was very small.

The video is taken after i woke up this morning of me booting the PC up (my PC has been off for several hours) as you can see the LED is not turning on despite the OSD saying it is on, unplugging and plugging in the power cable returns the LED to working order.

I was unable to get the serial number this morning but i can update you with that later today.

Any update on this?

Surely a physical feature of the monitor not working after a recent firmware update is a pretty big deal, all be it cosmetic? I'd love to be able to enjoy the colours of the latest firmware but this and other issues are preventing me.

Just because 75% of people decide to use a monitor arm doesn't make this a none issue.

Over a year after this monitor released there are still well documented issues, i'd love to be able to enjoy the monitor without checking for firmware fixes daily.

Gonna go ahead and ask once again if there's any update for this? Is a new firmware being worked on?

I have the exact same issue as described. I have switched firmware several times and can add that his issue starts with MCM106. I am now running MCM105 because of this issue, as I really like the lighting.

I have a USB hub with some periferals attached to it in the monitor - havent tested if it makes a difference if these are attached or not on the behaviour.

As OP is asking for, would be great to get an update on this.

Just a quick note on this issue, i mentioned the possible cause in another of my threads but didn't update it here.

It appears in my case the cause for the lights going off and staying off was related to the USB hub power setting, i had it set to turn off when in standby mode and it appears that the LED light is effected by this setting from MCM106 onwards.

I don't think having things attached to the monitor would make a difference either way, but if you have the above setting toggled to save power (so the things attached go off when not in use) then it would make sense why you are also seeing the issue and why most aren't (aside from the fact a lot of people use monitor arms).

It seems to still be a bug that needs fixing, even if you're quite content to keep power going to the USB hub.

I'm still on MCM105 myself due to other issues i've described, sent a PM with my info to one of the reps here, hopefully we get a fix soon.

EDIT: I've just noticed MCM108 has been posted, unfortunately i'm still at work so can't test if it fixes my issues (my specific issues aren't mentioned in the notes but maybe they're too specific) here's hoping it sorts all remaining issues for everyone.

It also mentions fixing of the RGB lighting after a pixel clean, maybe it wasn't related to the USB hub at all.
