KVM Switch issue with Display - PG32UCDM

I have a gaming PC connected to the Monitor through DP and Keyboard and mouse are connected to the monitor and all works great.

I have a work laptop that is connected through Lightning Port to USBC on monitor.  I have no display output but the Keyboard and mouse will work through the built in hub and it powers my device all day.

I have tried:

  • several, high quality and correctly rated cables. (no issues with cable)
  • Tried laptop using another Lighning hub device to another monitor and it works fine (no issues with port)
  • Tried unplugging my PC so only the Laptop is connected and manually selecting the input and it doesn't work (not an auto detect/switching problem)

This leaves me to think its an issue with the port itself being fault.  Can someone advise if I have this right and should raise an RMA?

Hi @Harrop ,

Thank you for your inquiry. To better assist you in resolving this issue, we would like to confirm the following:

  1. Port confirmation: Have you connected the cable to the display's USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C (with DP Alt mode) port?
  2. Cable confirmation: Are you using the USB-C cable that came with the product?
  3. Laptop interface confirmation: Have you confirmed that the laptop's USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode?
  4. OSD input source: Please ensure that the input source in the display's OSD menu is selected to the correct USB-C port.
  5. Driver update: We recommend that you update the display driver and the laptop driver to ensure that there are no problems with the software.
  6. Cross-testing: If you have other sources available for testing, we recommend trying to connect another laptop to the display's USB-C port to see if it displays normally to determine whether it is a display problem or a laptop problem.

If you have tried the above suggestions and the problem still persists, then the issue may be with the display's port or cable.

To more accurately pinpoint the problem, we recommend that you send the display along with the cable to an official repair center.

Our engineers will use your equipment and cables to perform a detailed inspection and confirmation to help you resolve the issue.

You can find the nearest service center location through the following link: https://www.asus.com/support/service-center-location

Thank you.

It was completely my error.  I didn't realise that not all USB C cables are created equal and although the one I was using was of high quality, it didn't have capability for 4k60hz.  I bought one from UGreen for about £16 that did the job!

Question, does the display for the laptop work at all?

There is a very common issue where devices lose display output at random https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-monitors/pg32ucdm-black-screen-during-game-sessions/m-p/1077623...

Asus still has not addressed that issue after almost a year now.

If the laptop just does not have any display output at all, you may have to go into the monitor settings and manually set the display input to usb-c
