HDR on PG27AQDM and PG34WCDM, major difference.

Hello,

I recently bought 2 240hz, HDR OLEd monitors, I updated both to the latest Firmware (105-109) but the difference in HDR image if I run a similar video is incredibly big. On the PG34

 On the PG27

As you can see the PG27 with the latest firmware and factory setting looks terrible.

Any suggestions on how to make this better? is there any automatic calibration tool? Or a suggested settings?

This is so bad, I have to turn off HDR which is a bit disappointing spending 1800 euro on 2 new monitors.

thanks

Hello Crasje

In the monitor OSD settings under Image, there are 4 HDR settings you can try.

There are windows HDR settings you can play with. I haven't installed this, but there is also a windows HDR Calibration tool you can download. - Windows HDR Calibration - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store

Hi Nate,

Thanks for your quick respons, I tried the 4 options but compared to the PG34 it all 3 variants either with the brightness option on or off look terrible and like a video is played on a screen on steroids. 😶

I did try the calibration on my PG34 but I found going through the screens I ended up with a worse look then the factory settings so I removed the app.

I see.

In the monitor OSD settings under Image, HDR Setting, check the box "Brightness Adjustable".

Have you made any changes in the Nvidia control panel to the brightness or contrast? Changing these has a pretty dramatic effect on the color.

I only change the Digital vibrance to 75%.

I had almost the same setting, color channel red was all channels with me and Digital vibrance was on 50%. This is indeed immidiatly much better.

When I take a screen with the windows snipping tool it looks like he is in front of a lamp:

When I take one with my phone you see it has improved a lot:

it is still a bit off, he has this golem look (lord of the rings)

This is the same video but then shown on my HDR PG34"

More natural colors.

I took a screenshot of a jayztwocents video, it's like there is a camera flash on his face when taking the screenshot.

But other than that, the picture looks good.

I have the same thing!!

But have you noticed the difference between my PG27 and PG34?

Any idea how I can get the colors more natural like the P34 screen grab?

With HDR on, I have two color temp settings to choose from, 6500k and 8200k.

In the monitor OSD, Color, Color Temp, try 8200k.

I sorry to say that I am far from impressed by the imaga, colors are too intense and people look unnatural. I have turned off HDR on the PG27 and on for the PG34. Bit of a disappointed to be honest.

You get a sheet with factory calibration but it looks bad out of the box. For this pricing and this being an A brand I think they should calibrate HDR too. Should not be rocket science since they also do the non HDR calibration.
