Asus ROG XG27AQDMG severe image retention problem

Metalfuze

I bought this monitor 1 month ago. From the start, I have a consequent image retention problem. I waited a month to see if the problem would fix itself. Unfortunately, it did not. What stands out is that the image that is "burned in" is always similar. After turning on the screen, the panel seems to retain whatever's on the screen for the first few minutes after turning on the screen. As an example, I added 2 photo's to show how bad it is. It stands out that the Nvidia G-Sync logo and AMD FreeSync logo's are "burned in" (these álways show when turning on the monitor), along with some other windows on my background (background image, EA login pop-up, monitor options, windows search, among others). I have found no consistent way of removing the image retention. Pixel cleaning (multiple times) has not worked, turning the screen off and on again has not worked, and I already updated to the newest firmware version as well. Sometimes however, the retention seems to disappear at random.

I have found similar forum/reddit posts of this issue as well:

Help is appreciated!

Hi @Metalfuze ,

We sincerely apologize for the issue you are experiencing. We recommend trying the following steps:

  1. Restore the monitor to factory settings.
  2. Cross-test with different connection cables.
  3. Ensure that the graphics card driver is updated to the latest version.

If the issue persists despite these steps and the troubleshooting you have already performed, we recommend sending the monitor to an authorized service center. Our engineers will diagnose the device and provide further assistance.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need additional help. Thank you for your understanding and support!

Hi @Aureliannn_ROG,

Thanks for the response. I have already tried restoring to factory settings and updating my GPU driver. Both unfortunately did not work. Will try to test the monitor using different setups and cables later this week. Something else that stands out is that the retention issue occurs every time after the monitor was turned off or in standby mode for some time. In some cases, 30 minutes of standby time was already enough for the retention to happen after turning the screen back on again.

I have one more question:

I bought the screen on the 29th of November last year, so I have the monitor for around 40 days now. I averaged around 3 hours of screentime daily up until now. However, the OLED time tracker indicates that it has already had 768 hours of screentime. That equals 32 days of 24 hour screentime. I am not even close to that amount of screentime, considering my 3 hours of daily screentime since the purchase. I always ensure that my pc and monitor are turned off when I don't use them. Could you elaborate on the OLED Time Track? When is it tracking? Does it continue to track even when the screen is turned off? Or is there a chance that this monitor has already been used before, without me knowing it? Unfortunately, I did not check the usage info directly after purchasing the monitor, so I do not know how many hours were tracked prior.
