Asus PG27AQDM connection issue with firmware MCM106-MCM109 (not 105)

Hi

I'm having an annoying issue with my ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQDM monitor and its firmware.

Ever since MCM106 firmware (106, 107, 108 and latest 109), when my monitor goes into sleep mode it disconnects or something from Windows/PC. Because when I come back and wake it up, apps have forgotten which my main monitor is and opens up on my 2nd monitor.
It's like when it sleeps, apps starts moving to the 2nd monitor. Qbittorrent and STEAM for example. I also think a similar thing is happening when I tab out of a full screen game or when I close it (when it goes black).

Now to be very clear. This does NOT happen at all on MCM105. I tried upgrading from 105 every time there is a new firmware over the last year and every time the issue comes back and disappears as soon as I go back to 105.

Does anyone have any idea of what's going on and more importantly, how to fix it. I tried to reset the monitor multiple times. Before and after a firmware upgrade. Does not help.

Hi, unfortunately the problem is not solved yet with Firmware 109, there is an open discussion on this problem.

PG27AQDM Stand-by bug
If you want some advice, stay with the Firmware 105 version because most likely ASUS technicians will never solve this problem..

Oh. I didn't know it was a known issue. But that's good I guess, that it's not just me having it.

But in the thread you posted, the last post sayts its fixed..

This has been fixed "MCM109 resolves the occasional signal loss when toggling HDR" but not the kind of problem we have.

Hi @Ejziponken ,

Thank you for contacting ASUS support.

We understand that you are experiencing an issue where your PG27AQDM monitor's primary display is not recognized after waking from sleep mode. To better assist you, we would like to clarify a few points:

  • Display recovery: After waking up from sleep mode and the display appears on the secondary monitor, does it automatically switch back to the primary monitor? Or do you need to manually turn the monitors off and on to restore the primary display?
  • Occurrence: Does this issue only occur when waking up from sleep mode? Does the primary display behave normally during regular use?
  • Problem recording: To help us better understand the issue, please record a video of the problem occurring and provide it to us in MP4 format.
  • Display driver: Please ensure that your graphics card driver is updated to the latest version. You can download and install the latest driver from your graphics card manufacturer's website.
  • Monitor settings: Please reset your monitor's OSD settings to factory defaults and try using a different cable to see if the issue persists.

With this information, we will be able to analyze the problem more thoroughly.

Thank you.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

First of all, I don't think "monitor's primary display is not recognized after waking from sleep mode" is the correct description. Once the monitor is woken up, It is the primary display without user input. But the APPS do not recognize this by themselves. So I have to start moving the apps from my 2nd monitor to my main one after each sleep mode.

Whatever happens, is happening once the display goes into sleep mode and reverts once woken up.

Display recovery: Both monitors wake up normally when the mouse is moved. I don't need to do anything.
Occurrence: Not that I have seen. It does behave normally when being used.
Problem recording: Not sure what you want me to record.. I mean, it happens in sleep mode.
Display driver:  Using latest
Monitor settings: I did reset about 15 times over the past year. Also, since others have the same issue, I don't think we can blame it on a bad cable.

For me the same with DP 1.4. After booting i have to turn off and on my monitor to see my windows screen and I can't boot into my bios with DP 1.4. My CPU is an i9 13900kf and my bios set it to 3 ghz, when I set it to 3,1 ghz or higher my screen is working again. I tried to update the firmware with the onekey update and with the usb drive, sometimes windows showes an incompatibility software message with the update tool.

GPU is kfa2 NVIDIA 4090

CPU is i9 13900kf

Motherboard is MSI 790 Tomahawk DDR5

RAM is Corsair DDR5 5200 32gb dual kit

PSU is ENDORFY Supremo FM5 Gold 1000W

Case is phanteks eclipse g500a performance

I try to keep my firmware and software as updated as possible.

Hi @Ejziponken,

Thank you for providing the detailed information. It is very helpful for us to resolve the issue.

To better understand the issue you are experiencing, we would like to confirm a few points with you:

  1. Cross-testing: We would like to know if the issue of applications moving to the second monitor after sleep when you use PG27AQDM as the primary monitor and replace the second monitor with another model.
  2. Interchanging the role of monitors: If you set PG27AQDM as the secondary monitor and set another monitor as the primary monitor, will the applications return to the original primary monitor after the computer wakes up from sleep?
  3. Problem recording: To visually understand the process of the problem, we hope you can record a video of the entire process from when you open the application on the primary monitor, enter sleep mode, and wake up and the application moves to the second monitor. Please provide us with the recorded video in MP4 format.

Providing the video will help us locate the problem more quickly and find the best solution.

Thank you again for your cooperation.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

Confirmed, since firmware MCM106 and later, every time the PG27AQDM enters sleep mode (indicated by an orange light), such as when switching between two screens with the Win+P shortcut, it emits the typical "disconnection sound" from Windows upon reactivation, and some my windows apps are relocated. This issue does not occur with firmware MCM105.

The monitors are good for sure when u like the design but the software is buggy as hell and i think they will never be able to fix this like Microsoft is doing it with Windows 11. Even not good enough to be at beta stage.
