I have spent days trying to figure out the problem through USB Game Controllers, Device Manager, and other means.
Just so I am clear, are you saying there is no way to use the joystick functionality through Windows without also going through Steam?
I have seen others use virtual joysticks to get it to work. I find it odd that the joystick shows up under USB game controllers but is not detected in any gmae I've tried it on. Ideally I want to use it in Star Citizen.

Are you looking to use the joystick in digital or analog mode? What game functions/controls are you hoping to use the joystick for?
The way that Steam app (and even Windows itself) is recognising the joystick has changed since that time. If in digital mode, it should be straightforward - assign the directional keys to the joystick then map those in the game.

I'm looking for analogue mode. I want to use it for flight movement. I want to get off the keyboard and into more fine analogue control.

I have managed to do this and get Battlefront 2 (the new one) to respond to the analogue input, but the Y axis is reversed no matter what I do and rebinding it or flipping it or re-calibrating it doesn't seem to work.
Please advise.
Whether the stick is in horizontal or vertical, my attempts to move forward, as you would, result in me walking backwards and vice versa.
I tried calibrating it backwards to see if that would solve it, that did not.
I tried clicking the inversion options that you see in the controller layout options via steam big picture, that did not work.
It seems strange to me that you can't just like.. simply emulate a joystick.

in windows gamepad calibration, things don't seem inverted. and when testing inputs in steam, things don't seem inverted - but when it comes to actually playing in the game it just doesn't work.
I also can't get it to work with rockstar launcher / red dead/ GTA
this is kinda bunk for such an expensive mouse.. the main selling point doesn't seem to work.
I'lll admit it seems to work fine in games that don't require an xbox controller and instead have native joystick support. so it's not like a total loss I guess.

Yeah, that’s super frustrating. Steam Input can be hit-or-miss with non-Steam games. Sometimes mapping through DS4Windows or reWASD helps bridge compatibility with Rockstar titles.
