Strix Scope II 96 - Macros and more

Hi everyone,

I recently bought an ASUS ROG STRIX SCOPE IIand I’ve been testing its lighting and macro features with Aura Sync and Armoury Crate. I have some questions and feedback that I hope someone from ASUS or other users can help with:

Aura Sync profiles and modes

  • Is it possible to save Aura Sync profiles directly into one of the keyboard’s onboard profiles?
It seems strange that the predefined effects in Aura Sync are identical to those in Armoury Crate, except that Aura Sync lets you create custom lighting effects. However, I can’t figure out how to store those custom effects in the keyboard memory.

  • Can Aura Sync be used in all three connection modes: wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4 GHz wireless?

I have my personal PC with Aura Sync installed connected via the wireless receiver , and my work PC connected via cable. If I switch from the wireless Aura Sync PC to the wired one, and then back again to the wireless PC, only one Aura Sync layer loads on the keyboard. I need to reapply the effect from Aura Sync to reload all layers properly. Is this expected behavior?

Macro recording

  • When recording a macro on the fly (Fn + Left Alt), all the lights on the keyboard turn off except for the Left Alt key. Is there a way to keep the lights on while recording?

  • Also, I noticed that macros can be assigned to any key, but that key then becomes unusable for typing. For example, if I record a macro on the “E” key, I can’t use it to type the letter “E” anymore. It would be great to have the option to trigger the macro using a combination like Fn + [assigned key] instead.

Lighting control and design feedback

  • RGB brightness for Aura Sync effects can’t be adjusted with the keyboard’s volume wheel or with Fn + Arrow Down. Is there a method to change the brightness of Aura Sync effects directly from the keyboard?

  • In Aura Creator, the keyboard’s visual representation looks like a simplified cartoon version, and it’s quite unclear which key corresponds to which real key. Would it be possible to use a realistic keyboard image instead, similar to what other brands do?

Also, what's the point with Windows Light Sync? I've used keyboards from Logitech and Corsair and you don't have to fiddle with Light Sync as you have to do with Armory Crate.

It’s also disappointing that there isn’t a clear manual and that there are so many posts asking for help without any replies.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

As a follow-up to my above post, I have other questions for which I am unable to find a solution.

- How can I delete the macros "on-the-fly"? The only solution I've been able to find is to reset the keyboard, but that is not a solution for me because that deletes all the other configurations that my keyboard may have at that moment.

- Is there a way to check the macros I have recorded in the keyboard? I know, in Armoury Crate I can check the macros I've assigned through Armoury Crate, but I can't see the macros "on-the-fly".

- I have doubts regarding keyboard profiles, and scenario profiles. Can I add several scenario profiles to one keyboard profile? Or only one scenario profile per keyboard profile? I am not sure how to do it, I've tested and had no problems but I have the feeling that I have no idea what I'm doing.

- Is there a way to add a configuration to all keyboard profiles? For example, the wheel personalized function can be added to each profile. Can I personalise an action for all the profiles? It's quite annoying having to personalise all profiles one by one, if I want to use in all of them some of the same features.

I am no expert but all these features look like they can be added in future software updates, am I right?

More questions will be posted as I've had the keyboard for only 2 days and I still have to use it to test all the features.

I would love a reply because if these features are not going to be implemented, or are impossible to implement, I need to consider change my keyboard to another brand that can provide the features I need.

Again, thanks in advance.

It's Ok if only one or some of the questions are solved.

Hi @ToniMMMM

1. No, it is not possible to save lighting profiles in this way, and it affects all selected devices.

2. The keyboard turning everything off except Left Alt is the built-in “macro recording mode” indicator. AFAIK, there’s no option to keep your normal lighting while recording; it’s hard-coded, so it’s obvious you’re in record mode.

As per Quick Start Manual:

On-the-fly Macro Recording

  1. Step 1: Fn + Left-ALT to start recording
  2. Step 2: Enter the keys to be recorded as a macro
  3. Step 3: Fn + Left-ALT to end recording
  4. Step 4: Assign Macro Key

3. As per Quick Start ManualPress the switch function button ( [function button symbol] ) to rotate between modes. You can then use the Multiwheel to adjust the settings for each function ( [multiwheel symbol] ). Onboard brightness adjustment is per device. Logically, this makes sense.

4. Windows Dynamic Lighting (aka Light Sync) is just Microsoft’s built-in RGB system.
It lets Windows control compatible RGB devices directly from Settings.

If you want to use Aura Sync / Aura Creator, you set AC priority. Please see FAQ
