Hello Crasje

1) You'll want to connect the wireless dongle to a pc usb port, you can use pc case or motherboard usb ports.

2) It's preferrable to use a pc usb port for charging, although it may be ok to use a hub for charging. If your keyboard gets warm to the touch while charging, discontinue charging and use a pc usb port.

3) The adapter is a usb extender. If you're having 2.4GHz wireless issues, you can use the usb extender to move the wireless dongle closer to your keyboard.

You'd connect the cable to a pc usb port, connect the usb extender to the cable, connect the wireless dongle to the usb extender. It should have a clip to clip on your mouse pad.
