ROG STRIX FLARE II ANIMATE keyboard sensitivity

Hi, a question for anyone to answer.  I purchased the Strix Flare II animate a few months ago.  Of all the keyboards I've ever owned this one is the most sensitive keyboard I have ever owned.  Maybe it's the mechanical key switches.  It's kind of irritating, can I change the keys so they have more resistance?  Sorry if this is a newb question, like the keyboard and don't want to have to look for another one.

The ROG Strix Flare II Animate does have swappable switches, so it's definitely possible to change out the switches pretty easily. A switch puller is included with the keyboard, but any standard MX-style switch puller would work.

Luckily, there are a ton of options for swapping to another switch type based on what you like! A few questions to help guide what you might be looking for:

• What switch type did you choose for your ROG keyboard?
• Have there been keyboards that you've used in the past that had the resistance level you're looking for?
• Do you prefer linear, tactile, or clicky switches? (In case you haven't looked into these specifically before, linear is a similar resistance all the way down the keystroke, tactile has a resistance point in the middle to give you some feedback when you're reaching the actuation point, and clicky also has a tactile point but makes a distinct click sound on key press)

NX Red Linear Switches is what I chose.  I'm looking for a firmer type of switch, more resistance, these keys feel lowly set in the keyboard if that makes any sense...any suggestions on where to buy?  Does Asus sell switches? Clicky is not important, but if it's the firm I'm looking for I will not complain.  I'm in my own room with no one else to complain lol.

Depending on how exotic of a switch you want, there are a lot of options!

The NX red switches have an actuation force of about 45g, which is definitely on the lighter side. Personally, my preference is somewhere around 65-70g actuation force. I'm usually a tactile switch user, but I've heard good things about switches such as the Gateron Ink Black V2 (60g actuation force). There are a lot of options out there, so I encourage you to do a quick web search and read into it a bit!

Regarding feeling lower set, maybe it's due to the NX switches having a slightly shorter than the "typical" actuation distance. The typical is 2 mm travel until actuation, but the NX switches are at 1.8 mm (which may not be a HUGE difference on paper but you might notice it by feel.) Many people like a shorter travel for gaming since they don't have to move their fingers as much before actuation, but since you want it to feel deeper make sure you find a switch with actuation travel of 2 mm and the full keystroke at 4mm. The shortest actuation I distance I remember off the top of my head is just 1.2 mm (something like the cherry mx speed switches). Is there a switch type or keyboard you're used to from before you got the Flare II Animate?

I don't believe The ROG NX switches are officially available for purchase separately, but let me check on that!

Went with the Cherry MX RGB Blue switches.  Clicky Clicky!  My daughter uses my keyboard a lot for schoolwork. I'm in a private room with the computer when I use the keyboard, and this will not drive anyone mad.  I did some research and Cherry seems to be the best at making switches.  I hope they work well.  Thanks again for your support!

Having a separate room is always a good thing when you have clicky switches 😛

Cherry is the original manufacturer of the current most popular switch style -- MX style switches. Cherry is generally a solid choice, although maybe not as unique as some other switches out there.

The MX blue should be a bit heavier in spring weight and have slightly longer key travel before actuation, so hopefully it covers what you're looking for! The big benefit of the hot swappable switches on the Strix Flare II Animate is, if you end up not liking the switches or you just want to mix things up, you can always try something else!
