I am very happy with the keyboard, except mainly for this problem: clunky device switching between 3 Bluetooth devices. At this time, it looks like this:
> Switch to Bluetooth if not already in that mode (kb restarts, then goes through 5-6s animation)
> Long press the knob button (3s, if you do it during the animation it counts. So as soon as animation ends, you get to the next prompt)
> Choose between BT pairing and Host Switch
> Move knob vertically to corresponding already paired BT device number
> Click knob button (and then go through the whole restart animation AGAIN)
Other keyboards simply have the OFF/Wired/Wireless hardware toggles. On Wireless, swapping between 2.4Ghz and the three BT devices is as fast as using keyboard shortcuts. Just reading what I just described is exhausting already.
I don't mind the restarting, and the initial switching if I was in dongle/wired mode. But I don't want to do all that knob stuff, scrolling through devices, and on top of that, still having to choose between pairing and host switching. That is a lot of steps in between, with some infuriating delays already.
Note that when you switch from 2.4Ghz to BT and vice versa, despite the 6s OLED animation, the keyboard is almost instantaneously usable which I love. So if you're just switching between these two devices, it's not too bad. It's just that when the OLED animation is happening, it does not let you access any of the knob features at all. So switching between the 3 BT devices feel like a punitive experience.
There's nothing in Armoury Crate that enables this. I highly recommend to ASUS that they enable keyboard shortcuts because this will also prolong the lifespan of the knob button. I hate to think that if the knob fails at some point, I will not be able to change from whatever Bluetooth device I had already set from last time.
