All ROG keyboards will work without Armoury Crate wired or wireless.

You can switch lighting effects with the Fn + left and right arrow keys.

You can adjust the brightness all the way down to off with the Fn + up and down arrow keys.

Without Armoury Crate, you won't be able to update your keyboard, this is why I recommend installing it.

Here is a list if all 100% ROG keyboards, some are only wired.

Hello Daytrader,

ASUS has a lot of ROG keyboards, I'm sure whichever one you choose you won't be disappointed.

The ROG Azoth is an excellent keyboard, it's a 75% keyboard. It has an OLED display that can be configured from the date and time to adding your own custom gifs. It comes with extra switches and a switch remover tool should one happen to go bad, it comes with lube and a paint brush to apply the lube to the switch. It has a metal frame instead of plastic, it's one of  the quietest keyboards you'll ever use.

If you shop around you can find it cheaper. - ROG Azoth | Gaming keyboards|ROG - Republic of Gamers|ROG USA (asus.com)

The new ROG Strix Scope II 96% is another awesome compact keyboard, this keyboard can be updated to the Omni Receiver. The Omni Receiver let's you pair two compatible ROG devices to one wireless dongle. For instance you can pair this keyboard and the ROG Harpe Ace mouse to one wireless dongle. You can get it with either the clicky tactile storm switches or the more quiet non clicky snow switches.

If you like compact, the ROG Falchion is the most compact of all the ROG keyboards at 65%. As with the others above, it has all the functions of a full size keyboard with some functions requiring the Fn key.

The ROG Claymore II is another excellent choice, this one has a detachable numpad. With the numpad it's a 100% full size keyboard, remove the numpad and it's an 80% keyboard. - ROG Claymore II | Gaming keyboards|ROG - Republic of Gamers|ROG Global (asus.com)

The ROG Strix Flare II Animate has the customizable AnimeMatrix display. - ROG Strix Flare II Animate | Gaming keyboards|ROG - Republic of Gamers|ROG Global (asus.com)

Whichever ROG keyboard you choose, I will recommend installing Armoury Crate for full customization of your keyboard and periodic firmware updates. Armoury Crate has some nice lighting effects and is easy to use.

If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask.

Thx for the reply, some great info there, am also looking at the claymore 2 you mention, forgot to say im really after a 100% keyboard, but do you know what would happen if i did plug keyboard in and not use armoury crate, i mean would keyboard and wireless stiff work, minus all the rbg stuff, thx
