Asus ROG Centurion 7.1 not detected on Windows 11/Linux (works on laptops)

Hello everyone, I’m facing a strange issue with my Asus ROG Centurion 7.1 headset. The problem appeared only a few days ago — initially everything worked fine. After keeping my desktop PC powered off for several days, when I turned it back on the headset was no longer working.

Here’s what happened step by step:

  • At first, the headset worked without problems.

  • After the PC was off for a few days, the headset stopped working when I powered it back on.

  • I reinstalled the drivers (ROG71_Setup_1.1.20 FIX for Windows 10) and it worked again, but only for one day.

  • The next day, the device stopped working once more.

  • I tried a second driver reinstall, but this time the headset is not even detected by Windows, so I cannot install the drivers manually either.

Important detail: the headset is not broken. When I connect it to my laptops (even with Linux), it powers on and works perfectly. But on my desktop PC, it is not detected at all.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to the USB controller or power delivery on the desktop motherboard? Any advice or workaround would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I went further with the TESTS, and I discovered some very interesting and strange things. A powered USB hub partially solves the problem, since it keeps the device always on, and of course when the PC (Windows 11) is turned on, the headset is recognized and ready to use. But if you turn off the HUB and then turn it back on, the headset will not be initialized when Windows starts.

I brought the headset to my father’s house for testing. On a recent laptop with Windows 11, they didn’t work (which was expected), but I was also unable to use them on two desktop PCs with Windows 10 and ZorinOS 17. Quite strange, considering the headset is supposed to be compatible with Windows 10, and on my two laptops running Linux Lite and AntiX, the headset worked perfectly — unlike ZorinOS, which didn’t detect them at all.

But here’s the twist: I tried connecting the headset to an old IBM 330 PC with Windows 98SE, and guess what? It recognized and initialized them!

As you can see from the photo, Windows 98SE detects the headset:

In Device Manager, it shows up as a USB Audio Device:

In Multimedia (Audio) properties, it is listed both for audio and microphone:

Of course, keep in mind that even though they were recognized and installed, Windows 98SE was not able to actually use them as the main device. The audio was still played through the speakers.

In these photos, you can also see that once the headset was disconnected, the USB Audio Device disappeared. This indicates a perfect recognition of the headset.

Now I wonder: how is it possible that Windows 98SE can detect the headset, but I cannot get it to work properly on my main PC today?!!
