Re: ROG STRIX RTX 4090 OC Black Screen Flickering

I've got a brandy new ROG Strix 4090 OC White I purchased 2 days ago and have been experiencing the same flickering issue with no additional  OC applied.  I have found that by installing the Asus GPU Tweak III software and adjusting GPU voltage up  +20% the flickering is significantly reduced while on the desktop or watching YouTube.  +40% seems to have removed flicking completely.   All other settings are at default.  Came from an EVGA 3090 FTW3 with no flickering issues.

EDIT: After about 30 minutes the flickering is back and as annoying as ever.

Hello bro,

I have the same card as you 4090 OC White, and i think the same problem.

My screen on DisplayPort flick and go black, sometimes pc restart sometimes back to normal, i have been weeks trying to fix this, the only thing that fixes this is change the Power Management Mode to "Prefer maximum performance" on Nvidia panel, but this sound like more a "bandaid" fix.

I think is a BIOS/FIRMWARE problem or DRIVER, but in the download page of BIOS/FIRMWARE, DRIVER of the White version, don't have BIOS update, just the Black version have BIOS/FIRMWARE update, check my post on this forum: https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-graphics-cards/screen-flickering-black-screen-pc-restart-rog-st...

Do you fix that already, RMA you card?, I think i gonna RMA mine, because no one helps me. Have a good day.

Hi @Brucis @Jason335i

Out of interest, have you tried over HDMI, is the behaviour the same?

Hi @Silent_Scone

Yes, in HDMI is rarer than displayport, in HDMI happened to me 1 time for the time I tested.

It is difficult to try to reproduce the problem, because is it completely random, sometimes it takes 10-30 min to happen, sometimes 1-2h.

on HDMI it takes longer, but it's there.

Thanks. Looking online, some people have had some success lowering their panel to 8-bit and disabling G-SYNC. Naturally, you don't want to have to do this - but can you check to see if this helps on DP?

I tested this too, disabled G-SYNC and 8bit the same problem, in 8bit and 10bit the same. Tested on drivers from 551.23 onwards, tested in Windows 11 and 10 fresh install, tested in native 12vhpwr and 12 vhpwr adapter, I tested a lot of things, but only thing that fixes this is change the Power Management Mode to "Prefer maximum performance" on Nvidia panel, but this sound like more a "bandaid" fix.

Now i have my old EVGA RTX3060TI on my pc, and its run perfectly fine.

I think the card have a serious problem on BIOS/FIRMWARE, or even hardware. Many people having this issue with ROG 4090 OC

I'm having the same issues w/ a ROG 4090 OC, on a Z790 Dark Hero with a 14900k, ROG 1200W Thor II PSU.

Seems to only do it under graphical load, when it was on "Performance OC."  Switched it to the "stock" settings to see if it makes any difference.  Have noticed around a 12~15C hotspot difference.  System loses all screens, goes black, GPU fans to 100%, and then will reset after a period of time.
