GPU temperature concerns

Hi, this is my first post here.

I'm afraid I have a problem with my GPU. It's about the TUF 4070 Ti Gaming OC and its hot spot temperature. I've never paid much attention to it before, as it usually stayed around 83-85°C. However, I've recently noticed that the hot spot is extremely hot. When the GPU temperature is around 67°C, HWInfo shows the hot spot at 90-93°C, and in more demanding games, when the GPU hits 72°C, the hot spot reaches 95-100°C. The temperature difference during gaming is often around 25-30°C betwen "GPU temp" and "hot spot temp" in HWInfo. I've had this card for a year and a half, and until now, I’ve never had any issues with it or my entire PC (I also have an i7 13700K, which, thankfully, has worked flawlessly since new!). There haven’t been any performance drops, BSODs, etc. However...

What pushed me to write this post is the card's behavior in games I recently revisited. One of them was RoboCop: Rogue City. The game froze twice after over an hour of gameplay with the error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG. Out of curiosity, I checked the temperatures and got a bit scared. For testing, I also ran a few other games that previously worked fine, such as Mafia: Definitive Edition, Trepang2, and God of War: Ragnarok. Six months ago, everything worked perfectly. Now, the GPU reaches significant temperatures, and the hot spot goes up to 110°C, with fans running at full speed. I also ran the built-in benchmark in Cyberpunk 2077, and again, the hot spot temperatures were extremely high, with fans running at 3000 RPM. HWInfo recorded the hot spot at a maximum of 112°C! This never happened before. Specifically, with Cyberpunk, I remember clearly that about a year ago, the hot spot was around 85°C with the GPU at 73°C. I remember this because, after assembling this setup, I used that game as a benchmark for its capabilities. In all these cases, the Nvidia overlay shows a noticeable drop in the GPU clock speed.

The card has factory overclocking, so I haven’t made any changes. As for the cooling of the whole setup, it’s in a GT501 case, with three fans at the front pulling air into the case, one at the back, and a 360mm AIO at the top exhausting air. The PSU is an ROG Strix 850W.
The drivers are the latest (566.35), the card is correctly mounted in the slot, and the PSU cable is also properly connected. The heatsink and fans are not dusty or dirty since I regularly clean the interior with compressed air. I also tested my previous GPU in the same system, and it worked perfectly.

Do you think I should start worrying about my RTX? It’s clear that something is wrong. Ever since I noticed this issue, it hasn’t stopped bothering me, and honestly, I’m now hesitant to run newer, more demanding titles.

Hello lueyibtd

The GPU Hotspot temperature at a 30c difference and hitting 112c seems high to me.

Since temps were initially ok, it sounds like it could use a repasting with a good quality thermal paste. Not that ASUS uses bad quality thermal paste, there are cheaper thermal pastes out there that may not perform as well.

I always stood by Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, there are other good quality thermal pastes too.

If you decide to do it, replacing the thermal pads would be a good idea as well.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, then I'll suggest to contact an official ASUS Support Center for your region.

I have no problem doing such things; however, the card is still under warranty, and I don’t want to disassemble it on my own. Therefore, I’ll need to submit a request.
