Asus TUF gaming x670e-plus wifi doesn't detect MSI Ventus RTX 5090

I'm trying to install the 5090 into Asus TUF gaming x670e-plus + 7800x3d. The 5090 fan works well but doesn't produce any video signals. BIOS / Windows device manager doesn't list this device.

BIOS version: 3278.

Options I tried but not working:

  1. Switch PCIEx16 from Auto to PCIE Gen 5, Gen 4, and Gen 3.
  2. Clear CMOS.
  3. Use DDU to uninstall nvidia drivers.

The same PCIe slot worked well for a 4090 in auto pcie link speed.

Power supply: Corsair RM1000x

Can we have way to detect if it's a motherboard issue or a graphic card issue?

Hi @sososad

Simple diagnostics first,

Can you check the Q-LEDs, which is lit?

Are you using a riser cable? It might sound silly, but ensure the GPU is fully inserted. The 5090 TUF is a very big GPU.

Are you using the 8-pin adapter supplied with the card?

Thanks for replying! no QLED light after windows startup.  i'm not using a riser cable. The GPU is MSI Ventus 5090 not 5090 TUF. But I agree it's a giant gpu.

I tried both the 8-pin adapter with the 5090 or 4090. None of them worked.

Ah that's my bad, apologies. I misread the board name. I would contact MSI in this case if the previous GPU works as expected. Or perhaps the retailer.
