ASUS Strix Geforce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB GDDR5 breathing / pulsating red upon startup and no display

Hi,

I was playing a game (not graphically in intense) and suddenly, the screen went black.

Then I tried to reboot my machine and I had no display. Screen was black. I tried that multiple times.

Then I looked inside the case and the ROG logo was pulsating red. I have a ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 TI 8GB GDDR5 Gaming Graphics Card (ROG-STRIX-GTX1070TI-A8G)

See the image attached.

Then, I removed the card and I was able to boot with the onboard/motherboard iGPU (Asus Gryphon Z87)

I want to know the cause of this but there must be a reason why the card is pulsating red...

No, I have not tried this card in another PC. However, I tried 2 different cards in my Asus Gryphon Z87. Asus GTX 960 and Asus TUF RTX 4060ti and both are functioning properly. It also means that it is NOT a power supply issue.

Any Idea?

Thank you.

Hi @slamarre ,

Thank you for providing the detailed information. To assist you better with the ASUS Strix Geforce GTX 1070 Ti graphics card issue, we would like to confirm the following:

  1. Armoury crate settings: Have you configured the Aura Sync lighting effects for your graphics card using the Armoury Crate software? If so, could you please tell us the color and lighting effects you have set? This will help us understand if the graphics card's lighting behavior is normal.
  2. Driver version: To ensure that your graphics card driver is up-to-date, we recommend that you visit the official website to download and install the latest version of the driver. Updating the driver can resolve many potential issues.
  3. Problem persistence: Are you still experiencing a black screen? Does the ROG logo's red light remain lit? If the problem persists, please provide a more detailed description, such as: Under what circumstances does the black screen occur? Does the computer automatically restart? Are there any error messages?
  4. Temperature monitoring: We recommend that you use the ASUS GPU Tweak III software to monitor your graphics card's temperature and usage. You can check the graphics card's core temperature, memory temperature, and fan speed to see if there is any overheating.
  5. PCIe slot test: You can try plugging the graphics card into a different PCIe slot on the motherboard to see if it resolves the issue.

Providing this information will help us more accurately determine the cause of the problem.

Thank you.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

Hi,

Here are answers below:

1. I am not using Armoury Crate

2. I was using the latest Nvidia driver in the 470 branch. I had the version 475.14.

3. Yes, I still the issue. The ROG logo is breathing/pulsating red. The black screen occurs all the time... I do not have a display output from the HDMI port. From the time I boot, I have a black screen and no HDMI signal. The computer does NOT automatically restart. I cannot see any error message.

4. I cannot use Tweak III software since I do not have any signal from the card and my computer screen is black.

5. I did not test the card on another PCI-E slot. However, I tried 2 different cards in my Asus Gryphon Z87. Asus GTX 960 and Asus TUF RTX 4060ti and both are functioning properly. It means that the PCI-E port is not the problem. It also means that it is NOT a power supply issue.
