**Description of Problem:**

when gaming or watching youtube, it then black screens, shows no display detected, audio stays for a bit, then reboots, sometimes with no audio at all. Requires power-cycle to boot again, but will happen even faster the next reboot if I don't reseat the card again, or disconnect power for ten minutes.

**Computer Type:** Desktop, custom built

**GPU:** ASUS ROG 5090 Astral OC 32GB

**CPU:** AMD 9800X3D, no overclock

**Motherboard:** ASUS ROG crosshair X870-E Hero

W/Samsung 990 pro 2tb m.2 in the 1st slot only. MB is

Running latest BIOS (1504), but rolling back doesn't help.

**RAM:** GSkill Trident Royal 32GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL28, Expo I enabled, but disabled didn't help

**PSU:** lian Lie edge 1000W 80 platinum. Direct the GPU with PSU stock 12vhpwr+ cable.

**Operating System & Version:** Windows 11 24H2 - Build 26100.4202

**GPU Drivers:** 576.66, clean install with DDU in safe mode.

**Monitor:** Asus PG32UCDM 4k 2160p @120hz

**Troubleshooting:**

- Reinstall Windows 11

- All drivers 576.XY (crashing) and 572.83 (stuttering)

- Verifying that 12VHPWR’s current is equally distributed across Pins - no problems, near perfect load-balancing

- Switching from Quiet to Performance GPU Bios; no change

- Disable EXPO

- Disable GSYNC

- Manually setting PCIe to 4.0

- new PSU

-memtest passes

-OCCT for CPU GPU and memory all pass stability tests w/ furmark.

Are you using a GPU support bracket? Given the behaviour you're describing, especially since you've ruled out load balancing and it occurs under varying load, it's worth double-checking whether the GPU is fully seated. I ran into a similar issue after switching to a waterblock. The card looked properly inserted, but it turned out it wasn’t fully making contact, which caused intermittent problems and took a while to diagnose.

I've tried both a riser cable and a GPU bracket

Ok. I'd still suspect a power issue of some sort. Can you try an alternative 12VHPWR cable or PSU?

If you lower the PT to say 70%, does the behaviour persist?

At 70% power it still crashes unfortunately, it's a 1000w PSU 80 platinum from lianli

Unfortunately, lowering the power limit to 70% didn't fix it, still eventually black screens and reboots

Hi @Noxioucide ,

Regarding the display issue you’re experiencing, please follow the steps below to help us verify and troubleshoot:

Download and install the latest NVIDIA graphics driver from the official ASUS website
 - We recommend version 572.83 or latest version 576.28
 - Please avoid using the NVIDIA website driver for now, as ASUS-provided versions ensure compatibility with our hardware.

If the issue occurs during gameplay, please try the following settings:
 - Disable G-SYNC
 - Disable DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling)
 > These features may affect display stability under certain conditions.

Check your graphics card’s VBIOS version
 - We recommend using the latest version of GPU Tweak III (please do not use third party GPU-Z, as it may not correctly detect ASUS VBIOS versions)

To assist further diagnosis, please provide the following details:
 (a) When does the issue occur?
   - While idle? Or during gameplay? How to trigger issue occur?
 (b) If it occurs in-game, please share:
   - Game title
   - In-game display settings (e.g., resolution, effects, frame rate)
 (c) If possible, please provide photos or videos showing the issue as it occurs — this will help our technical team pinpoint the cause more accurately.

    (d) Kindly provide product serial number via PM box

Once you’ve completed the steps above, feel free to send us the requested information. We’ll continue to track the case and assist you further.

Thank you!

1.) this happens on ANY driver that I roll back on including those you just listed.

2.) in what world is it acceptable for your $3000+ to not be able to use the literal advertised features on the box, this is not an acceptable answer.

3.) the only bios update posted is a quiet v bios and I didn't buy this expansive ass card to run it in quiet mode, again unacceptable.

4.) any time, booting, web browsing, youtube, watching movies, gaming, and if I don't reset the gpu before rebooting, it will happen twice as fast the next time, or I lose audio during the next boot. Its in any game I play, no matter the title, no matter its engine, 10-30-1 hour in it will crash my pc.

5.)how can I record it crashing? its literally a unpredictable black screen.

  • Reseat the GPU Thoroughly
Even if it looks seated, try removing and reinserting the card. Some users found that even a slight misalignment caused intermittent black screens.
    1. Try a Different 12VHPWR Cable
Despite good load balancing, some stock cables have been problematic. If possible, test with a different high-quality 12VHPWR cable or adapter.
    2. Lower GPU Power Target (PT)
Use MSI Afterburner to reduce the power target to ~70%. This has helped users stabilize the card under load.
    3. BIOS Tweaks
      • Set PCIe slot to Gen 3 instead of 4.0 or Auto. Some users found Gen 3 more stable with early 5090 firmware.
      • Disable Fast Boot and HAGS (Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling) in Windows.
    4. Clean Driver Reinstall (again, but deeper)
      • Boot into Safe Mode.
      • Use DDU to remove all NVIDIA drivers.
      • Reboot and install driver 572.16, which some users found more stable than 576.x or 572.83.
    5. Monitor & Display Settings
      • Disable G-SYNC and HDR.
      • Try a different HDMI/DP cable or port.
      • Test with a different monitor if available.
    6. Check for vBIOS Update
Contact ASUS support to see if there’s a newer vBIOS for the 5090 Astral OC. Some early batches had firmware quirks that were later patched.
    7. Remove ASUS/Gigabyte Software
Uninstall Armoury Crate and any other vendor utilities temporarily. Conflicts with GPU telemetry or fan control have been known to cause instability.
