Gaming Charging Dock overheating USB inputs

Kaim82

Hi, I recently purchased a ROG gaming charger dock and have been using with ROG ally with no issues, however when I plugged a wireless USB receiver into the dock (so I could have audio pass through on an Xbox controller as this doesn't work via Bluetooth) the USB receiver became so hot it stopped functioning and was too hot to touch when initially removed from the dock. Any similar experiences or solutions as I don't want to risk damaging any further USB inputs if it will overheat again!

Hi @Kaim82 ,

Thank you for your question.

To better assist you with the overheating wireless USB receiver issue, we would like you to confirm the following:

  1. Receiver itself issue: We suggest you try plugging the wireless USB receiver into another device (e.g., another computer) to see if it still overheats. If the other device also experiences overheating, there may be a problem with the receiver itself.
  2. USB port and cable testing: You can try using a different USB port or a different USB cable to see if the issue persists.
  3. Dock testing: If your device has a dock, we suggest you plug the receiver into the USB port of the dock and see if there is any improvement.
  4. Clean the USB port: Please check the USB port on the dock for any dust or debris and clean it if necessary.
  5. Usage time: If the receiver is used continuously for a long time, we recommend removing it periodically to allow it to cool down.
  6. Receiver heat dissipation design: If the receiver continues to overheat, we recommend that you consider replacing it with a model that has a better heat dissipation design.

Thank you.
