[AI Router] Install Frigate, Set Up Account/Password
Frigate is an open-source NVR (Network Video Recorder) featuring real-time AI object detection as its core capability. All video processing happens locally on your hardware, ensuring camera streams never leave your home. This guide series will help you install, configure, and integrate Frigate with Home Assistant to trigger events using AI object detection.
Frigate Features
1. Prerequisites
Before installing Frigate, make sure you have completed the following steps:
1-1. Portainer is enabled: See the Portainer Usage Guide for setup instructions.
1-2. Your IP cameras support RTSP: Check your camera’s documentation to confirm RTSP protocol support.
2. Install Frigate

3. Find the Initial Random Password
The first time you log in to Frigate, you’ll be asked for a password. The default password is randomly generated and must be retrieved from the Frigate container log.

Next, refer to the following guide Set Up Frigate Cameras to configure your cameras.
FAQ
1. What cameras does Frigate support?
Frigate supports most IP cameras with RTSP protocol. Here are some common brands and their documentation links: Common RTSP-supported IP cameras and documentation links:
2. After first logging in to Frigate, no camera feeds are shown?
This is normal, as Frigate does not have any cameras configured by default. Please refer to the next guide Set Up Frigate Cameras for setup instructions.
3. After first logging in to Frigate, clicking Settings does nothing?
Try logging out and back in from the Frigate management interface. This usually resolves the issue.
You’ll need to delete the Frigate container and config volume, then reinstall Frigate. After reinstalling, a new random password will be generated, which you can find in the container log.
Note: This process will erase all settings, so you’ll need to reconfigure your cameras and other parameters.

5. Frigate installed but not used immediately, can’t find the initial random password
The initial password is only generated and recorded in the container log during the first installation. If too much time has passed, the information in the log may have been overwritten. In this case, you can set the Lines to a larger number (e.g., 1000000) in the container log interface, toggle the Auto refresh logs switch several times, and then enter Password in the search bar. If you still can’t find it, please refer to the solution for forgotten passwords above.
