[AI Router] AiProtection Smart Security Introduction and Setup

Overview

ASUS routers provide the AiProtection Smart Security feature, which performs real-time network monitoring to detect and block threats such as malware, viruses, and other malicious attacks before they can infiltrate your computer or connected devices.

At the bottom of the page, you can view detailed data analytics — such as the number of detected events, threat activity time, and the source and target of successfully blocked threats. You can also search by time range and export a list of Successfully Protected Events.

Notes:

  1. Some feature options may vary depending on the firmware version.
  2. Please update your ASUS router’s firmware to the latest version. For more details, refer to the FAQ: [Wireless Router] How to update the firmware of your router to the latest version
  3. When the router is operating in Access Point (AP) mode, the AiProtection feature is not supported.
  4. When WAN Link Aggregation or Dual WAN Load Balance Mode is enabled, AiProtection cannot be used simultaneously. It is only available when using a single WAN connection or Dual WAN Failover Mode.

Feature Overview

   Router Security Assessment

The router automatically checks all security-related settings and displays them in the Security Assessment List. You can review which settings are secure and follow the recommended actions to improve protection.

  • Use Case: Before downloading new applications or adding smart home devices, it is recommended to run the Router Security Assessment. This function scans the router’s configuration — such as password strength and open ports — and provides improvement suggestions.

   Malicious Site Blocking

Prevents access to known malicious websites using a continuously updated database, protecting against malware, phishing, spam, adware, hacker attacks, and ransomware.

  • Use Case: When you want to ensure safe browsing for family members (e.g., children or seniors), enable Malicious Site Blocking. This feature automatically updates its threat database and prevents users from entering phishing or malware sites.

   Advertisement Blocking

Blocks common advertising sources to reduce distractions, improve browsing experience, and lower security risks.

  • Use Case: If your browsing experience is often disturbed by intrusive ads, enable Advertisement Blocking to automatically block ad sources and make web pages cleaner and faster.

   Tracker Blocking

Detects and blocks tracking requests from websites, advertisers, and third-party analytics platforms — protecting your privacy, reducing data leaks, and speeding up page loading times.

  • Use Case: If you are concerned about online tracking while browsing, enable Tracker Blocking. It automatically blocks third-party tracking requests, helping safeguard your privacy and optimize webpage loading speed.

   Two-Way IPS

The Two-Way IPS helps prevent malicious incoming packets to protect your router from network vulnerabilities.

  • Use Case: If your computer or smartphone suddenly slows down, shows unwanted ads, or exhibits abnormal upload traffic, enable Two-Way IPS. It automatically detects and blocks suspicious inbound and outbound packets, preventing devices from being compromised or controlled by botnets.

Setup Steps

  1. Log in to your router’s web management interface, then click [AiProtection] Smart Security on the left panel.
  2. Turn on the desired feature switch — setup is complete.

FAQ

1. How do I reset the list of Successfully Protected Events?

Click the trash bin icon in the lower-right corner of the “Successfully Protected Events” section to clear the list.

2. Why can’t I see the Two-Way IPS feature page on my router?

Some feature options may vary depending on the firmware version.

3. Will AiProtection still work if a device (such as a smartphone or TV) is using a VPN?

When a device uses a VPN, all its data traffic is encrypted and routed through the VPN connection. Because the data is encrypted, AiProtection cannot inspect it and therefore cannot perform threat detection for that device.
