Hardware requirements (AMD - sTRX4) : ASUS ROG/PRIME motherboards with AMD TRX40 chipset.
Hardware requirements (Intel) : ASUS ROG motherboards with Intel 5xx/6xx/7xx/8xx series chipsets with ALC40xx codec.

Note : In order to know which drivers package to use, match the audio specifications of your motherboard with the apps or ask me.

TIPS :

If you want to manage the drivers (remove old/unused drivers for example) that you have in your Windows DriverStore
Use Driver Store Explorer (Right click on "Rapr.exe" > Run as administrator).

If you want better interrupts delivery latency
Enable MSI (Message Signaled-based Interrupts) mode on all your supported devices (see the column "supported modes") with
MSI Mode Utility (Right click on "MSI_Mode_Utility_v3.exe" > Run as administrator).

If you experience crackling, popping, audio stutter
Disable hibernation (Fast Startup included).

Thanks for taking the time to respond. On another thread, another user had exactly the same issue as me on a completely different motherboard. He was able to find a temporary workaround. I know that strictly speaking this thread is about distributing drivers not about tech support, but I honestly think there is some kind of bug with the Impedance Sensing and Amplify Level (perhaps for certain combinations of speakers and motherboards).

Essentially, we've found that switching to "Headphones" playback device by disabling the front panel jack detection seems to completely cure the audio distortion, presumably by bypassing the additional amplification in the "Speakers" playback device.

This is very strange, so I would be grateful if somebody with more expertise in the audio chip / driver design could comment on it. I've posted the link to the thread and my most recent response to it below.

https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/amd-800-series/rog-strix-b850-i-gaming-wifi-audio-issues-with-line-out...

"In my sound settings, I now have both "Speakers" and "Headphones" as playback devices. Both of them play sounds through my rear Line Out. The "Speakers" setting sounds the same as before (with distortion), but the "Headphones" setting does not have any distortion.

This is consistent with the behaviour I've experienced first hand from plugging headphones or speakers directly into the physical front headphone jack, and also what other people report i.e. that there is no distortion when using the front headphone jack. However, in this case, I obviously haven't actually plugged anything into the front jack at all. I can't figure out whether selecting the "Headphones" playback device was ever intended to output sound through the rear Line Out, or whether this is a bug that indicates there are deeper problems with the entire driver framework.

I notice that the "Headphones" tab in the Realtek Audio Console does not have the Impedance Sensing or Amplify Level information. This is probably not a coincidence - it feels like there is some bug with the way that these "features" work."

good observacion. and correct. In my computer i do not use analog signals. I also have the front panel not in use. I have no use those .... uff ever. take note that, as personal observacion, those get noice from..... humidity, contact etc. i wish also have all the devices to test. all my devices are digital (mic headphones) my speakers are very basic old 3 set speaker and time to time i have to change cables (my place has a lot of humitidy) Distorcion can be anything. BUT if using headphones direct and have none can be.... from bad connector cable humidly and also.... power. remember still analog. hope you have that sort.

Learn, Play Enjoy! We help and collaborate, NOT complain!

After restarting my machine a few times, I'm now seeing the "Headphone Impedance Sensing" and "Amplify Level" appear in the Headphones playback devices menu.

Even though I'm actually connected to the same speakers via the same rear line out, it is now saying the Impedance is more than 1000 Ohms, after previously detecting it as 10 Ohms under "Speakers" playback device.

This suggests to me that there is something wrong with the way this Impedance Sensing is implemented in the audio chip / driver combination.

Thanks

I got that weird +1000 Ohm reading as well after installing 6.4.0.2406, which in turn give very low sound pressure. But there's an easy fix: unplug your headset or headphones post install, re-insert and it hops back to an accurate reading. Mine is 19 Ohm and headphones that are heavier to drive read around 50 Ohm. Anything with higher electrical impedance ought to be a set of active speakers.

I haven't disabled the front jack detection in Realtek Audio Console and only use said front 3,5 mm connector for headset with mic on B560E-I motherboard as that is the only port that has DTS:X functionality.

For me, this is the only way I can get clean output from the rear line out. The volume is a little quieter, but importantly it is free of distortion. So I don't really consider it to be a problem in practice, although I am fairly convinced that there are some basic problems with the way the Impedance Sensing works.

Hi!  I've recently upgraded to Windows 11 and want to reinstall the audio drivers.  I have the Rog Strix Z690-E Gaming Wifi, and I believe I need to install the UAD - ASUSROGSS3-DTS driver version, but I am hoping someone can confirm; How would I know which is the appropriate driver?

Secondly, I'd like to install the driver without installing any of the Nahimic/A-Volute stuff - Is there a guide to doing so (if possible) and/or removing that piece of the install post-installation?

Apologies if these have been asked/answered before, but it's a really long thread and I don't see how I can limit a search to just this thread.

Thanks!

Hi,

You have an ASUS ROG SS3|DTS Sound Unbound motherboard with ALC40xx codec, so :

You need Realtek USB Audio Drivers (UAD - ASUS ROG SS3-DTS) from the first post of this thread.

- If you want to get rid of SS3 apps only :

Follow scrupulously your CLEANUP process then your INSTALL process (without installing SS3 apps), for the next drivers packages that I would release, you will can directly follow your UPDATE process.

- If you want to get rid of SS3 apps & SS3 drivers (at your own risk of side effects related to this action, since the audio drivers package type for your motherboard is based on SS3 APO Driver) :

Delete the A-Volute folder from AUDIO_Realtek_USB_UAD_ASUS_ROG_SS3-DTS_v6.4.0.xxxx\Drivers\USBAud\Win64\ThirdParty folder then follow scrupulously your CLEANUP process then your INSTALL process (without installing SS3 apps).

For the next drivers packages that I would release, you will can directly follow the UPDATE process (always after having delete the A-Volute folder from AUDIO_Realtek_USB_UAD_ASUS_ROG_SS3-DTS_v6.4.0.xxxx\Drivers\USBAud\Win64\ThirdParty folder).

Hello Mokichu,

I'm a Z790A user and always opt for the UPDATE option. I use SS3 and I'm happy with the software, but I noticed that the update process now ends without any notification or restart prompt like it used to. Is there a way to add a line in the batch file to notify me when the UPDATE is successful? Yesterday, I updated from 2404 to 2406, my first attempt failed—possibly because Windows was also updating something else simultaneously. On my second attempt, I tracked the update via Task Manager to see when it finished. Also verified with IOBit Uninstaller since it shows what software had just been installed. Can this process be made more informative? Thank you for your help!

@MoKiChU Thanks so much for your response!  I've cleaned up as instructed, removed the specified folder and installed v6.4.0.2406.  Everything appears to have been successful; I have sound and all appears to be working without issue so far.  And it appears the SS3/Nahimic/A-Volute software is not installed.  I was able to install the Realtek and DTS apps as well, but I seem to be unable to install the AUDIO_Dolby_Digital_Plus_Decoder app - using the provided shortcut, I get directed to a Windows Store page for Dolby Digital Plus decoder for PC OEMs that has an "Open" button that throws an error: "Your device needs a new app to open this link."  Is this a potential side effect of not installing the SS3 components, or am I missing something?

Edit - I think the Dolby Digital Plus decoder for PC OEMs is actually already installed; I see it listed under Apps > Installed Apps.  So this may just be a non-issue.

Thanks again!
