Hi MiKiChU,

Having serious problems getting SS3 working again. I updated the drivers with Armoury Crate and ever since SS3 won't load. I've since tried all your steps with several drivers and yet I continue to get this:

nopkey.PNG

Not sure what to do at this point or which drivers I should be using. My motherboard is

ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI

audiospecs.PNG

It also says it is preloaded with DTS Sound Unbound

I do have a question. No matter if I use Armoury Crate or your instructions, in Device Manger I  show this:

driverdetail.PNG

Is that correct?

Any help you can provide  would be greatly appreciated. I have followed your clean up instructions to the letter as well as the install.

Also, if you could point me to the correct drivers I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Hi,

I quotted & tagged in red the root cause of your issues.

Let me explain (and at the same time alert All other users of ASUS ROG SS3|DTS Sound Unbound motherboards) : The latest audio drivers package v6.3.9600.2389 offered by Armoury Crate or offered in the support page for/of some ASUS ROG SS3|DTS Sound Unbound motherboards is a total mess from ASUS staff and I advise you not to install it :

MoKiChU_0-1727698341512.png

They mixed Realtek USB Audio Drivers v6.3.9600.2389 that does not support SS3 (Realtek USB Audio Drivers between v6.3.9600.2356 and v6.3.9600.2390 does not support SS3 because Realtek Extension Driver for SS3 (ExtRtXUsb_Asus_AVO_RTK.inf) does not exist between these versions), with the Realtek Extension Driver for SS (ExtRtXUsb_Asus_BJ_RTK.inf), and the Third Party Drivers for SS3 (of which SS3 APO). Issues begetting another, I'm not even talking about the fact that Armoury Crate can makes you download the Third Party Drivers for SS (of which Bongiovi APO) which will make messed up your audio drivers installation even more.

Anyway, you should report your issues to ASUS Support, they are the ones responsible for messed up your audio drivers installation, not me.

Follow these steps to fix your issues, and pay attention to what Armoury Crate is doing henceforward (or if you can afford it, uninstall Armoury Crate and disable Armoury Crate in your BIOS so it is no longer offered for installation) :

1) Delete the SS Drivers by Bongiovi (if they were installed by Armoury Crate):

- Launch Driver Store Explorer as admin > Check the boxes of all versions of these drivers .inf (if you find them) : bongioviapomb.inf | bongioviapo.inf
- Check the box "Force Deletion" then click on the "Delete Driver(s)" button
- Restart your PC

2) Cleanup then reinstall your Realtek USB Audio Drivers :

You have an ASUS ROG SS3|DTS Sound Unbound motherboard with ALC40xx codec, so :

You need Realtek USB Audio Drivers (UAD - ASUS ROG SS3-DTS) from the first post of this thread.

Follow scrupulously your CLEANUP process then your INSTALL process, for the next drivers packages that I would release, you will can directly follow your UPDATE process.

I did everything you instructed and was meticulous in completing every step of the cleanup. I also removed the Armoury Crate app and made sure it was disabled in the BIOS. I still end up with this:

nopkey.PNG

At this point I don't know what to do - I've been working on it all weekend. It's crazy that a $240 motherboard cannot provide decent sound without all this hassle.  One note, when I try and run SS3 the NOPKEY error immediately pops up. It doesn't even seem like it is trying to run the program, it just pops up. If I can't get this solved soon I'm just going to buy a 3rd party sound card and be done with it.

Thanks again for your quick response.

@nolamike What Windows version and build you're using? I'm have the same mobo and for me drivers installs normal.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro version 22H2. When I built this rig in July initially SS3 was working(although not great and would require occasional reboots to get it running again). Late last week Armoury Crate requested I update the audio drive and it has been a nightmare since.

That's why I don't use this AC soft. I'm on Windows 11 24H2.

@MoKiChU the same thing is happening to me as is happening to @Zardoc ... I am following the UAD - ASUS ROG SS3-DTS directions with my ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme and once I get to the step where I need to install all apps in the Apps folder, Realtek Audio Control tells me this:

realtek error.png

I do not have any Bongiovi drivers in my driver store.
