Water Chillers

I've been watercooling for years now and have recently been researching aquarium water chillers. I'm not trying to go mor than 1 degree c below room ambient temp that way I can avoid any condensation issues. What I can figure out is sizing the unit and how it will handle the sudden heat loads put into the system by the 2 gpu's and the cpu. Granted these are designed for 50 and up gallons of water in a fish tank and my water cooling loop may have a half gallon at the most once you get rid of the rads so I'm unsure how this would affect it's performance. What do you guys think?? Anyone have any experience with these??

hello..

its many chillers out there, some of them proving temps down to -30c

I think i pass this subject, its really not my table.. But some folks in here have the practical experiences using them..

Interesting subject...

I've been using a Hailea chiller for some time now... it's really good - but I'm using it for benching... not sure how it would perform during a long gaming session... Menthol also has the same chiller and he was using it inline with a radiator... - maybe it worth asking him about longer sessions...

A water chiller never cools below 1-4C... but even though you have to be careful with the condensation... - you always have to monitor the relative humidity in your room where the chiller is, you have the keep in mind the dew point...

Also, higher the cooling capacity of a water chiller, usually higher the noise it will make too...

But you have to stick your nose outside the computer shops, once in a while..

Computer shops in general sell, what they think you need, and what brings in cash

I think your chiller got built in restrictions..

Dont be that first mouse

Oh yes zolt. There are many chillers out there, that can cool your loop, much under subzero..
small units

I showed Arne one in the past, it was only after som fast browsing, it was a very small unit, and if i remeber correct, it had a -20c spec

must be a lot of others also..

isnt it only a compressor inside?, your small food-freeaer at home, can go way under 0c

i can be wrong, chillers = not my game

White Paw, my friend, it's about WATER chillers here... you can not go sub-zero with them as the water would freeze... 🙂

If you're looking for sub-zero cooling, the the best choice is to use a phase change unit... - there we're talking about -30 - -40C...
But then you do need to use serious insulation with those as condensation is an absolute sure thing with them...

anti freezer?

i use it, in my loop, and it wont freeze that easy

i will break it up> Use a chiller that go lets say, -20.. add antifreese in the water.. overclock??

am i missing something here

Phase charger, isnt that just another name for a compressor with a nozzle?
And waterchiller is another word for, compressor with a pipe?

My thoughts were something to keep it at ambient or a degree or two below so the condensation wouldn't be a problem. What I can't figure out is sizing one up. My best guess is I need something that'll handle about 2000btu/hr which equates out to about a 1/4 to 1/3 hp unit. I think. I'm just wondering how long it takes to pull down a temp spike and how much coolant I should have in the system??
I was thinking about some of these as they are pretty quiet btw.

They don't use peltiers so there energy efficient however it'd be nice if the had an option for copper evaporators but oh well
