DISCLAIMER: This is still a
concept. Final details are yet to be decided and the proper construction of the case and the computer itself probably won't start untill january. Opinions are welcome, but please avoid flame. Also, if this is not the right place to post this, please let me know.
I (we) prouldy present you my (our) first project and build log: the EPP - Extreme Performance Platform (or as it might also be known, console-sized extreme computer). The idea behind this project is to build a case that looks sexy, fits in the console form factor and have the power to play any game you want to throw at it right now at max settings.
The material used to build the case will be a mix of aluminum and stainless steel. They'll be cut and bent in industrial-sized machines (CNC's, plasma cutters, etc.) that I (we) have at my (our) disposal to use for this project. If windows make their way out in this project - which is very likely - acrylic will also be used.
For the painting proccess, I'm not sure yet, but probably anodizing the aluminum and painting it black and red will be the way to go. (ps. painting and anodizing will be outsourced)
If enough people get interested, it might be considered to make more samples of this case, sell it at a reasonable price and ship it to the US or anywhere else near. (I'm brazilian, so... Yeah, that's far)
So, why "we" and "me"? Who are you?I'm a brazilian guy who's a technology enthusiast and who haves a incredible father who's an engineer and is helping me with the design of this case. SGS (small gaming systems) is a project I had been planing for quite some time now and plan on turning into business, so while "we" are not a stablished firm, the plan is to be as soon as funds are raised.
So... Let's jump to the
Parts List:
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k []
CPU Cooler: Noctua L9i []
Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus VI IMPACT ITX []
RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport VLP (
probably, yet to be decided) []
GPU: R9 290X Direct CU II or 780ti Direct CU II
SSD: 3x Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB []
PSU: 2x Seasonic SS-500L1U []
Optical Drive: Silverstone Slot Load Blu Ray slim drive []
Understanding the designThe biggest trick of this design is the PCI-E riser that allows me to realocate the GPU. This way, I can put it behind the double motherboard tray (two plates, not two mobos) and make the case way slimmer. Below the GPU is the 1U PSU and below the PSU are the 3 bottom 92mm intake fans.
On the other side of the tray, we have the motherboard (with the CPU, cooler and RAM in it) and the HDD and SDD. On the top of the case stand the 3 exhaust 92mm fans.
On the back of the case, you can see the mobo I/O, the GPU ports and the PSU fixed in its bracket.
The case will measure aproximately
290mm x360mm x100mm (HxLxW) and this results in almost
10.4 liters of workspace! This, of course, is considering I don't go the WC route - which won't happen if I don't have the money for it. If I go for air cooling, breathing holes will be made in both side panels for the GPU and CPU to cool.
The thickness of the aluminum/steel to be used is not yet decided, but it will stay somewhere .3 and .5mm.
Sponsoring It is in the works, but it might or might not happen.
So,
let's see some renders, shall we? (
more are to come)
Rendered concept. This was at early stages, the whole design has changed.Another render of this concept.Photorealistic render of a slightly modded version of the first concept.Another photorealistic render of the second version.New design, sits flat and bear more of the steambox design. The new design, detailed.Photorealistic render of the final versionSo, this images give you an overall idea of what the project will look like. The red and black color scheme is a classic that will never die and I'll probably stick to it. The power switch will be one of those 22mm momentary
switches - a black one with a red led, indeed. I plan on using sleeved cables, but it depends on some other details.
Well, I think that's it (for now, at least). Hope you guys like the project and don't hesitate to drop some opinions! The more the better! Also, I'll be pleased to answer any questions, so if you got some, ask!
Thanks for reading and have a good day!
