Project BAMF - 1st Water Cooled Rig - Corsair 800D & RIVE

Blitzkreig
Level 10
Been a few years since I have built a new machine so I decided to also build my first water cooled rig. Build log is a month behind, I started this project almost exactly a month ago. Specs are in my sig.....Some of the mods I made to this Corsair 800D have been done before.

My fan controller from Bitfenix

4 x Spectre Pro 140mm Case fans on the left and 3 x Scythe Ultra 3000 120 for my RAD

Over the next several photos you can see some of the modifications I made to the case. I removed the lower HDD bay and that is now where my Swiftech Dual pumps are setup. You can see 5 1/4 bays have those quick release sliding mechanisms that I did not like at all. I cut all of those off and ground down all the metal clips holding them in place to make the side of the bay smooth for my carbon fiber cover.

I removed the stock front power grouping and installed my own switches, cut the top of it off because it covered the top of the front bezel.

Carbon fiber cover is actually made out of a material used to make knife sheaths and gun holsters called "Holstex" I ditched the screwed on version because I decided it would be a hassle and went with velcro. There where also be a Holstex cover covering up the bottom section of the case so the power supply will not be visible through the 800D's massive side window.

6 sided solid aluminum support brace covered in 3M Di-Noc material

Installing my fans and shrouds. I picked up some Phobya 20mm shrouds and some 5mm LED's to light them up.

I am using High Density Kobra carbon fiber sleeving on everything. Also I pretty much had to order custom screws for everything, I wanted as many as I could get to be black and have a hex head for a specific look I was going for.

Here you can see all the quick release bay clips removed and the panel clips ground down smooth and the new easily removable cover

Still have more work to do. In testing mode now so it's still a bit of a mess. Still need to mount the power supply in the case and sleeve a few more cables.

I will be entering this into EK's pc mod contest in hopes of winning something 🙂
Thanks

and..........done! Here is the finished product of a month+ long project. I love it and am pretty proud for my first water cooled / modded case project. Much inspiration from these forums and other online mod sources but it has a unique touch from myself also. From the carbon fiber material used to make gun holsters to the 1" thick piece of ABS plastic that extends the side panel fan all the way out to the edge, and the front panel mod with the custom switches. The side panel grill was also coated with a material used on firearms and was baked on, super hard and will not chip or scratch.

This sob is heavy! 68lbs!
