My first case design: Hybrid Octane..;)

Hey guys and, gals,

Here is my first time using Sketchup and, creating a template case design.. This is just my first test template and my first case design.. After lot of trials, could put it till this state.

This is going to be a Hybrid design. It can be used both as a bench case, as well as a home PC case. The inspiration behind this design is my passion to ROG.. 🙂

Please ignore the dimensions in the pic. This has changed in the real prototype that am cutting in cardboard.. 🙂

This might be the first hybrid case out there (well at least here in India I guess).. Hope you all will like it..

The top and side (mainly left side and, the bottom right side) panels are removable.. Another uniqueness is the motherboard tray which will slide out/in similar to the keyboard tray in office tables.

There are many more additions planned to get this into shape. Will try to create a cardboard cut out (in progress) and post some more pics on how it may look..

That was quick!! May have to put a patent on the design now I guess.. 😛 😉

Jokes apart, the drive cages won't be in that way.. There will be some more changes in the front and, back end. Mainly because the PSU will be coming in the back.. 🙂 But then, the one you have done is pretty similar.. 🙂

Please do update what you have in mind.. Would love to see/hear about them..:)

Well I am regular sketchup user...I do Architectural visualization...
I considered your PSU can get better airflow by elevating the case...so the stand-offs...and top handles for easy lifting

He he.. Nah, I haven't put the stand-offs yet.. Its part of the design.. However, I am a noob in sketchup.. Hence, getting it that far itself was a PITA.. The cardboard model will have these for sure..

Man, how do you get the parts in BTW? Also, the handles will not be on the front and, back panel.. If you want more info on what I have in mind, then here you go:

I have designed this as an Octogonal shape for maximum air flow and, this will have an unidirectional air flow (from front to back). It will also come equipped with ample space for big huge hands like mine to fiddle with the tiny little components.. 😛

Since the air flow is from front to back, the mobo is placed with the connectors to the right side of the case.. This will help cool both the CPU and, GPU without an issue..

This also comes with a slider motherboard tray & side panels, which has wheels on the sides, similar to how your keyboard tray is on some of the tables.

The top portion is also removable separately and, this is what converts it into a benching case. The radiators can be fit either on the sides or, in the front (during benching!).

Ohk...Motherboard tray idea is good...I don't know how are you going to achieve that...but sounds great to me.
One more thing only top panel is removable or any other side of octagon?
To put the parts in you have to use import option or just use ctrl+c -- ctrl+v it works...Sketchup is very easy to use once you get your hands on it..But cardboard model is better as you can get good idea of proportions & dimensions...Looking forward to it..

The bottom side panes(the slanted bottom ones), the side left panel, the top side slanted panels and, the top panel are all removable.. The bare bone of the case will be the rods on the edges and, the front skeleton.

To add more rigidity to the structure, the side panels will be connected by two rods from left to right, in the middle of the case, to which you can bolt the mobo tray.. Hmm not sure how to depict it here..

For the front side, you will be able to open the front like a door... Each panels are held by a locking mechanism which am still working on. This will be in such a way that, you can pop open the panels easily..

The mobo tray and, the left panel are kind of connected.. So, both the left side panel (where the connectors go) and, the motherboard tray will slide out at the same time..

Hmm, many more things in mind.. Not sure how to put them in words though! 😄

Very interesting, i could see it been very good for cooling.
CPU - AMD Phenom II 555 OC'd and UCC'd to Phenom II B55 at 3709MHz

If you are going slider mobo...have you considered stretching of wires it can cause?..Or you just thinking it to disconnect from PSU & use?..I would like to slide it while plugged in though..

The idea is to disconnect and use.. However, I am still in the process of thinking all possible solutions for slide when plugged in..

One thing I have thought off is, it can have a rail system for the PSU and, other components plugged into the mobo.. However, the main stopping point would be the coolers/ radiators themselves..

Still thinking of how I can make them to be sliding too.. I have come up with a hollow panel design for now (like maglevs)..

For now, even a non-custom water cooler like h80, h100i, etc can have their radiators installed outside if needed! This provision is something that will be there in the case for now, meaning part of the side panel can slide..

Oh and the reservoir and pump can also be installed on a similar sliding rail in the sides. 🙂
