Menthols Test bench adventures

I moved to a new location this week, still most stuff in boxes, Verizon FIOS has some sweet connection speeds like nothing I have ever seen. signed up for the 75 MB down 35 MB up, test shows I am getting 84 MB down 39 MB up, I like it. I got 2 test benches for my 2 systems before I moved and have been waiting to transfer the hardware until I moved. so this morning I transferred one system onto Top Desk Test Station and got it up and running. I will tackle the other as soon as I go through some boxes to find some parts, what a hassle, pack it up for easy identification and can find everything except what I'm looking for. I took a couple pics with my cell phone, not very good but posting them anyway.
M6E with a 4770K cooled by Corsair H100i for now, with 8 GB of GSkill 2666 mhz Ram and a GTX 680 this should keep me connected till I tear into the CaseLabs and install that hardware on another test bench.

Very interested! yes please....the Ti looks like a good clocker with the new power balance features it has....

As a Titan owner I would particularly like to talk about DP floating point comparisons LOL 😉

There is a lot of hype about the Titan Killer but they have been hard to find in stock, now the Titan Killer Killer the 780 ti is released today so I have sold a couple of my 780 Classifieds and have a AMD 290x arrived today and a 780 ti should arrive tomorrow, I am a little skeptical that either can trump the Classified's but since I am a very stubborn person I am going to conduct my own comparison, 2 ssd's with Win7 one with AMD drivers and one with Nvidia drivers compare them out of the box, then see what overclock I can get on the factory air coolers, I have an EK block ordered for the 290x, non available for the 780 ti at this time. I have high hopes that if there is a winter Challenge it will be 3D and I will have my weapon of choice picked out before hand. Since I have my 24/7 rig now I am just going to bench with the x79 and buy, bench, sell gpu's and repeat

The 780ti has the same PCB as 780/Titan, so those blocks should fit the 780ti also.

Or just get a universal VGA block, they work just fine as long as you cool the VRM's with a powerful fan. And it's nice not having to take the loop apart when you swap cards.

I see that you are not only stubborn but thoughtful and visionary, making your winter provisions before the snow close all the mountain roads :D. Also with the new stuff and with RB ver2.0 you will keep the lab cozzy and warm for the cold winter nights. Good for you buddy. I remember you wasn't so happy about the OC capabilities of the memory of the 780s. I hope the new ones do the job. I am also curious about some real bench results of the new ones. Keep us informed 🙂

Yes, please, post some comparison benchmarks!

Hehe Arne I noticed that sentence in the reviews also.
First thing I have to say is setting the fan on the 290x to 100% is not something enjoyable, sounds something like a Harrier jet at takeoff.
I am not sure how long I will make a comparison at stock settings, I already have a bios loaded on a usb stick ready to flash, it is a beast of a card without voltage control

This is really no OS tweaking of services, a 100mhz bump on core and memory to 1500 from 1250, I am not sure how much overclocking headroom water cooling will provide
Obviously you can disable tessellation in AMD drivers

Heh, not too upset you're 2nd to an Aussie right now with the card are you? 😛

Hmm well looking about the PCB thing seems a bit confused...pic here http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/11/07/nvidia_geforce_gtx_780_ti_video_card_review#.Unudv_ljv0s PCB looks the same as 780 or Titan....here http://videocardz.com/47709/nvidia-geforce-gtx-780-ti-pcb-pictured different and looks like you'll need a new block coming from 780 or Titan.....

This is Nvidia were talking about, they are professionals at milking the market, and they probably will lock something to not allow you to enable those cores as AMD would, I am hanging on to one Classified for a while just to make sure though

I was hoping the Titan block would work as I have 2 but I have read elsewhere that it will not but EK and several others will have them soon.
The big question being asked is will you be able to flash a ti bios to a reference 780 and enable the extra cores and TMU's
