For the Love of ROG!

Hey guys,

I'm overall new to the building scene however, I've been a PC gamer since... well... 56k and ball mice.

I thought I'd show off my first build that I researched, and put together myself. I wanted something that would be somewhat future-proof yet not break the bank (throw all that out the window, I'm addicted... I would build 6 more right now for no reason if I could). The specs of my build are as follows:

ASUS Crosshair V Formula
AMD FX-6200 3.8GHz w/ 4.1GHz Turbo OC'd at 4.5GHz stable
EVGA GTX 560Ti
32GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Red
725w Coolermaster Extreme 2 PSU
Corsair H100 CPU Cooling
NZXT Switch 810 FULL (Special Matte Black Edition)

I have almost all fan slots occupied with the NZXT Enthusiast white fans (love these, they are super quiet, provide great air flow and I got them on sale half price at $9.99. They are the stock fans that come with the case as well) with exception to the fans I replaced on the Corsair radiator which were loud as hell!! Those were replaced with 2 BitFenix Spectre PRO White LED fans.

Here are some pics (sorry about the quality, iphone cam):

Let me know what you think!
Some of the changes that I would have done to the build in retrospection would be:

1) Spend a bit more on the video card (I will be replacing the current with 2 x ASUS GTX 660Ti's. Hopefully more TOP editions will be available through NewEgg or my local supplier by the time I'm ready to order but looks like I'm stuck with just the OC version ATM.)

EDIT: With the recent MSRP leak of ATI's new 8870 I believe I will play my cards based off this and hold off until either its release or it's Nvidia competition (which I'm hoping will see a price drop as well).

2) Cut it down to only 16GB of RAM but spend the same price roughly for a newer or better product (don't get me wrong, I love the vengeance but yes, 32GB is overkill!!).

3) Went with a fully modular power supply with approximately 1000-1100w.

Other then that I'm very happy with this build which rang in at just under $1500 CDN with taxes and all.

A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

Hmmmm... Interesting!

I would definitely prefer to get it off the ground, but if not.. that is perfect! Looks to me like it should support full size towers as well..

Thanks xero!

that thing is 15mm too short, the case is 235mm wide.

Yes, that was just the first that I found but the basic idea is there. I'm guessing Jstn could probably make something out of some scrap hardwood panel and steel brackets.

ah ok 🙂
im just too tired to think straight in a way so, past 12.30am 😛
i was thinking about if he could make a "chair/table" and place it beside of that "desk" ( towards the wall ) hes using, but since he have some ting else on the left side i guess its a begg and bow to the lady in the house 😉

lol kkn hit that one straight on, fiance won't allow random chair sitting next to computer desk! haha

too bad it doesn't fit, but it gave me a great idea for a floating shelf with my PC on it... either way, since it became a topic of discussion, I will post pics of what I decide to do!

Nice built! If there is something to worry about, it is more about the top mounted H100... that is seriously restricted! But what I would be realy worried about is your posture when you're sitting at that desk... get some addiction to some games and it's guarantied that your back will get destroyed... If you place that case on the side of the desk, you would address all our worries... 🙂

Thanks man, yeah it was definitely bugging me.. I was using the pull out tray so it gave me some leg room but that only worked until I tried to play FPS games and had little to no mouse space! I strangely sit with my right foot tucked under my butt and left foot on the chair at most times so no foot-space was needed. I have a series of spinal problems so I think the curvature of my spine just compliments strange setups like the one I had 😛

Anyways...

I got ambitious tonight and did this:

I CAN HAZ LEGS AGAIN!?

The printer is so darn bulky so I had to stuff it under the desk. Although... I just remembered that it's wireless! It's totally going in our storage closet on WiFi lol. I am enjoying it as a foot rest now though!

Oh, this is much better... now, you really enjoy your RIG!

Yeah, it's certainly much more comfortable and ergonomic!
