So I bought a strip of LEDs from Amazon and despite being listed at 5050, they had a 3.5mm female jack instead of the 4-pin connector needed for the Strix. Any tips on what to look for in a product listing to make sure I get the right type of LED strips?

Another possibility would be a kit like this , https://smile.amazon.com/Tingkam-Waterproof-Flexible-Decoration-Controller/dp/B01DBINHWA/ref=sr_1_1?...
Im actually replacing the original kit i put in my rig with one of these, because the LED's strip i first purchased were meh. The black PCB matches most cases nicely.
I dont need the IR remote to control the LEDs in my case because the Alpha has RGB headers, however I can cut the strips to the length i need, attach them to the headers and control them with the Aura software, and then use the rest to light up my PC area, i.e under my desk and behind my monitor. A kit like this might be ideal for you, since your mobo doesnt have the RGB headers. You could control your entire RGB setup with a remote that has TONS of customization options. Its definitely an option.

Hi,
I have the Maximus IX, so I can also connect the RGB strips to the motherboard, I ordered Cablemod RGB strips. Did you use the cable supplied with the motherboard to connect the strip to the motherboard?
I think I need a second cable like that for my second strip but I have no clue what too look for.*
