Alternative fans for Obsidian 650D?

Hi everyone, I'm currently using the Corsair Obsidian CC650DW-1 case with the ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE mobo and standard Corsair fans connected to the case fan controller. I'd like to replace all three Corsair fans with 3rd party (Noctua?) and connect them directly to the mobo with its built in fan controller (Fan Xpert). I'd appreciate if you could suggest which fans would work with this ASUS mobo as silently as possible.

Hello, I have the "brother" of your case, the 800D and actually a couple of hours ago I did just that, replaced all the stock fans and got the case ready for my brand new build (based on the MVF board).

I highly suggest either the NF-F12PWM fan (as the 120mm oem fan replacement) and the NF-A14FLX (for the 140mm oem fans), but if absolute minimal silence is what you seek your best choice (with only a minimal hit on your airflow) would be the the NF-S12A (any of the 3 choices, be it either pwm, flx or uln, because ultimately you'll be controlling them via software.

Best of luck and enjoy your build,

Nikos

P.S: i'm a huge fan of Noctua's fans, definitely worth the investment, as for the "weird" color scheme I personally like it. I'll be uploading some pics from my build later today or tomorrow as son as I finish it.

Thanks MultiDoc for your suggestions!. Do you know if the Noctua fans are ASUS Fan Xpert compatible? And if Fan Xpert can be set from the BIOS only or it needs to be controlled from the OS? Thanks

P.S.: What about the Noctua Ultra Silent 140mm Fan NF-P14 FLX?

No reason why they shouldn't be. Never had a problem controlling them up to now either via the BIOS or via software. But dont have any experience with Asus's Fan Expert Utility (as i said, I see no reason they wouldn't work though).

Unfortunately I can't answer that, maybe some other member can help you with this (i'll be having my hands on that fan expert thingy tomorrow probably, still building my new rig).

It's an excellent fan I have only great experience from it, they just recently discontinued it though and replaced it with the newer NF-A15 which although is better, it doesn't fit the same dimensions/places the NF-P14 did, so either go for the NF-A14's of the NF-P14 (i'd say NF-P14 since the performance difference isn't much and sound wise it might be a tad better), to get an idea, from my personal experience the NF-P14 even at max rpm is totally inaudible.

Hi Nikos,
1) Why did you originally suggested the NF-A14FLX instead of the NF-P14? The NF-P14 FLX is still sold in Amazon.
2) How would you say your Noctua fans compare with the Corsair stock fans in the 800D? Is the sound level much lower or is it just a minor improvement?
Thanks

I did just because the NF-A14 is a "standard" square design fan, while the NF-P14 is a round one, and it might not fit in all places designed for standard square 140mm fan places (for example I have an NF-P14 as exhaust in my case, but i put NF-A14's on the lower compartment and on the side of the HDD cage since the NF-P14 couldn't be fixed there). As i said both are very good options and any of those will perform better than the stock ones, they also have comparable performance, with the Nf-A being newer and a tad better.

Here are the specs for the stock COrsair fans that came with the 800D (i suppose they are the same for your case too):

max rpm: 1000
type: ball bearing
max airflow: 49,67 CFM
max noise: 24,4 dBA

and yes the difference is quite significant, you get both better airflow with less noise.

Since you brought this up, do you know exactly what the max Amper the onboard fan headers of the MVF will accept ?
