Important Question concerning downgrading from WIndows 8 to 7

Hello, I'm YIminy Cricket, and well, I'm obviously new here. Anyway formalities aside, I have a few questions (that I'm sure you've all heard before but please bear with me).

Okay, so I got a new Asus G-Series laptop and such, and it came preloaded with Windows 8. I'm planning on downgrading it to Windows 7 Professional Edition as soon as the disc gets here. Now the question is is this a good idea? I've been told that Asus usually has the software fine-tuned for optimal performance and downgrading would possibly affect my computer's performance. Is this true? Should I stick to Windows 8 or go through with the "downgrade"?

Well if the laptop offered a version that had windows 7 I don't see why there would be an issue

Other then that you'd want to hear from someone who's done it or google the laptop with windows 7 and see if there are drivers, that may be the issue if the laptop never had a version with windows 7

this is a brand new laptop with windows 8 preloaded onto it. I just want to make sure nothing goes wrong when I DO go with the downgrade. or would u recommend I go and get the 8.1 update instead?

That's personal preference, I personally like 7 over any 8, but you may not

What I ment above was i understand its a new laptop that came with 8, but it the laptop never was offered with windows 7 there sometimes can be driver issues like windows 7 may not have a working sound driver for you device, doesn't happen all the time but sometimes it will, there's also usually workarounds for some but I wanted you to just be aware of it

That's what I ment by if you googled the laptop and looked at offers if any came with 7 you'd know there would be drivers readily available

It can't be called a good idea or a bad idea; it boils down to what you are happy with. Personally, I would download the 8.1 update, install "Classic Shell" to get back my start menu, and go from there - that is what I have done on my desktop.

Windows 8/8.1 has proven time and again that it is better suited to multi-core and multi-GPU setups, and that's enough for me to keep 8.1.

Also, install programs like Adobe Reader if you hate the metro "apps" as much as I do, so you don't ever have to see crap software running full-screen on your monitor.

hmmm..... I think I'd prefer 7 tho. but thank you guys. I was hoping if someone knew if doing so may mess with other things like if Asus does indeed fine-tune the software and whatnot to make the thing run more efficiently, but IDK I'ma do it anyway. Thanks.

The windows OS is always by Microsoft, no Asus involvement

The optimization your speaking of would most likely come from some form of Asus software or the devices software or from within the board itself
For example let's just say SSD speeds, windows can effect it a bit but, the Intel sata ports on the board, and the Intel management software would effect it more, kinda sounds confusing but I hope you get what I'm saying lol

If you have a free 8.1 upgrade I'd say try that out first as other suggested, with classic shell you may actually like it, like I was saying above it all comes down to personal preference really, unless you run something that actually requires windows 8-8.1, in which case you'd wanna stick with it

OP you did ask us for opinion, and we gave them to you. But your response seems to be that you actually wanted to have confirmation that your decision to down grade was the correct one. That is two different things. 🙂

You do what you wish to do and be happy with your choices. Win7 is a tried and tested OS that works. Win8.1 is a huge improvement as a OS and one that I can recommend with confidence.

That being said, if you want the ASUS software that comes pre-installed with notebooks it is a very simple process to install. Simply download them all from the product support page and install.
