Hi everyone.
I own an Asus 4070Ti TUF Gaming OC since February
Performance, temp, noise wise, it's all fine and I'm pleased with my purchase.
Right when i got the card, i installed GPU Tweak III so i can set my own fan curve, a tad more aggressive than stock one.
Since the very first weeks of usage, I was getting hard freezes while light system load or YouTube playback.
While playing a pretty light game of League of Legends, i mostly had crashes when the game ended and client came up after exiting the match. Client consists of a front-end with animations and some YouTube videos ready to be played. (mentioning that for a reason, see below). A few times, it crashed while in-game also! Mostly though, when exiting game.
While watching YouTube video on MS-Edge or Firefox.
Crash is not immediate, it only progresses step by step and system is rendered totally unusable in a matter of 10-20 seconds.
First, buttons of applications become unresponsive. I cant shut down any window i have open, some of them close. At the same time, YouTube video is "buffering" with audio being played. Cant close the tab, cannot open a new one.
I can click system tray, but nothing happens. Start -> shutdown is clickable but doesn't do anything.
Task manager comes up but doesn't render any elements. Caps lock is turning on an off, mouse cursor moves around.
I have to press reset or hold power button when last sighs of life are gone. Caps lock eventually stops working, mouse freezes and system is fully crashed with a static image. Tried to turn monitor off while on static image, when it turns on again, i have no signal.
NO Windows event viewer log entries, in any category regarding the crash, apart from an unexpected shutdown or power loss which is normal considering that me myself pressed the reset button or force powered it down. No dumps either!
After many many Nvidia driver releases, situation is the same. Since 1st 40 series one, up to the latest one, tried all of them.
Yesterday, after a month of having GPU Tweak uninstalled having got rid of that crash behavior, i reinstalled it just to get the problem i described above, in less than 10 hours!!
Is it a known issue, does anybody else have encountered this?
Today, i uninstalled it and i'm pretty sure it's going to be fine again.

Hello,
Strange. Sounds like a conflict somewhere.
After reinstalling GPU Tweak 3, is it immediately reinstating any old profiles?
Do you have any other applications open that are polling the GPU?
Using the latest version of GPU Tweak from the support site?
Remove any system overclocking, including XMP/EXPO or any CPU overclocking (Optimised Defaults)?

Hello.
I used a clean install of W10 Pro on a older, spare nvme stick I had.
I only installed chipset AMD Drivers, Audio drivers etc, bare minimum, . Disconnected Webcam, BT Dongle.
I only have XMP profile enabled bios wise, tried with that OFF too.
I also used a different CPU along with latest stable bios version!
Tried with another DP cable, also, different HDMI cables on all of my GPU ports.
When uninstalled GPU Tweak, i made sure to check and delete all leftovers.
When I installed it again yesterday, I made a clean install and touched nothing but the fan curve.
Core/Memory clocks stayed untouched on performance bios selected.
I dont use any other monitoring software and I'm against that, nor any other tool to control RGB etc.
The only RGB capable device in my case is the GPU.
GPU Tweak versions i used is the latest 1.6.3.7, 1.6.1.5 and 1.5.7.1 which i first used when i bought the card.
I made sure on every install / uninstall to disable keeping profiles/settings and start from scratch, only with a fan curve profile.
I even tried just to install and leave it as it is, just to see if i get a crash, which eventually happened.
Took ma a LONG time to came into conclusion that i should post in here with my findings.

Thanks for the additional info, for the sake of troubleshooting have you tried Quiet BIOS?

Bump!?

See above, did you try switching BIOS to see if the behaviour is the same.

Yes, i tried quiet bios, it made no difference.

Ok, thanks.
Are you able to try this version?

I'll install it right now and report as soon as it crashes again.
Usually it only takes a few afternoons of browsing Youtube!
My guess is that GPU Tweak is interfering with voltage curve, cause everytime my PC crashes, gpu is in and out of idle / low power state.
While watching youtube, gpu is encoding small steps of video while filling up the player buffer, ramping clocks up and down.

Ok, some feedback.
I installed version mentioned, made sure not to touch GPU/Mem clocks.
Set my own fan curve and disabled fan stop.
1st crash came right after 2 days. 8-9 hours usage per day. 2 hours of gaming, no problem. Again, crashed on youtube playback.
I switched to "Quiet mode" just for the giggles ... same crash, after 3 days. More gaming sessions, less desktop browsing etc.
Switched again to performance bios, DDU nvidia drivers while keeping GPU Tweak installed, same crash the same day with the latest nvidia version installed. Uninstalled them all, crash free up until a few days ago.
Installed GPU Tweak again, 2 days ago while having GPU-Z running constantly in the background logging,
Crashed again when switching tab from a youtube video being played to another. Checked my logs, nothing abnormal, GPU was fluctuating between idle clocks and light usage. Temps were pretty much fine for 33% fan speed. 27 to 33 celsius!
