Hi guys,
recently I found the reason why GPU Tweak II/III resets everything sporadically at my side.
When starting, it scans for GPUs and reads its metadata and saves them to this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\GPUTweakIII\InitData_Card1.ini (same for GPU Tweak II as well).
Sometimes it happens, that the metadata cannot be read properly.
Most times the GPU name and BIOS version/date are affected. Sometimes also the SSID or other values. Even PC crashes have already happened at my side.
It reads the values wrongly or just shows up messed up random data.
GPU Tweak then "thinks" the configuration has changed and resets everything.
At my side, this read-errors were caused by Aura Sync (the old one, or also when using Armoury Crate) in case I enable the RGB animation of my TridentZ RGB DRAM from G.Skill. Maybe other DRAMs are also affected.
If you disable the DRAM in Aura Sync or just disable Aury Sync at all, the issue is gone.
You do not need to reboot the PC. Just close and restart GPU Tweak several times.
With GPU Tweak III it seems to happen more frequently than with version II.
Maybe you can verify this at your sides as well. If you can reproduce it, we might have a chance, that ASUS devs are able to fix it.
Kind regards,
Pat
My config:
ASUS WS X299 PRO, Bios 3701
ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3090 OC 24GB
Intel Core i9-10980XE
Windows 11 Pro 22H2, Build 22621.963, Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22638.1000.0, newest updates installed (2023/01/05)
Aura Sync, 1.07.84_v2 (this version fixed the G.Skill DRAM detection issue after Microsoft has closed a backdoor in the OS sometime last year)
GPU Tweak II, V2390 (version does not matter, older ones also have this issue)
or
GPU Tweak III, V1561 (version does not matter, older ones also have this issue)
