CPU usage always gets high caused by 'LightingService.exe'

Don't fooled by task manager's 2% CPU usage, it's a 4.4GHz 18C36T 7980XE, 2% is high enough.

1. Rampage VI Extreme UEFI 1401
2. ASUS R6E/G.Skill TridentZ/Cooler Master ML360R (no RGB fans installed)
3. Tried power cycle, clean reinstall, update software version, no help.
4. Tried reinstalling Aura, not Windows, there's absolutely nothing to do with Windows.
5. Windows 10 x64 1809.
6. The issue was present in all previous versions.

Screenshots: see attachments

it's before and after stop LightingService comparation

For users concerned about high CPU usage, we have tested several configurations and verified similar results - 1 to 2% max for software-based effects (lower for hardware-based: static, breathing, and color cycle). It is normal for brief spikes to occur when a new effect is applied - up to around 10%.

Results will vary according to system specs of course, and the number of Aura Sync devices linked. Since our test bench configuration changes frequently, there is always a fresh Windows installation.

Here is the typical CPU utilization we observed while replicating with the closest system specs available.

I tried it it briefly on machine in my specs. After install strips went dark and stayed there and MB just went to arbitrary colors in all zones. Calibration has no effect and selecting any of the effects ironically has no effect. To get back to the unicorn vomit default for the MOBO had to uninstall the software and power down machine completely as in remove input power. After a few years haven't had a single release that worked for me. Other contoller work fine, even the $50 variety and Id settle on that if they could also control the MOBO lighting.

System:
Asus Maximus Cod IX Motherboard
I7 7700K (TT 3.0 360 AIO)
16G Vengeance 3200Mhz DDR4 Ram
Asus ROG Strix 1080 TI O11
ENERMAX TB RGB Case Fans
WD 1TB M.2
WD 1TB SSD
WD 1TB HHD
Windows 10 Pro

First off I would say I love my ASUS Hardware. Every single Mobo I own is an AMD or Intel Asus product, same with my GPU's. All that being said, Ive never had an issue with the Asus Aura Software on my system. No problems installing or running the software. I picked up some Enermax Case Fans to run with the Aura software to match up with my other Asus Products. As I said, I have had zero issues other then maybe an occasional crash or freeze up of the program. It happens it was never a big deal. After installing my Enermax fans I noticed there was a beta version of aura, I completed a full uninstallation per Asus's instructions and performed a clean installation. After the restart and installation I noticed there was a windows update. I allowed the windows fall update to complete and restarted the system. On boot up Aura wouldn't detect any hardware. So I performed the shut down unplug method. This time Aura wouldn't even load up and would crash. Fast forward after doing and using every trick in the book. I went and Reformatted my hard drive with a clean windows 10 pro installation. I downloaded every version of Aura for my Mobo clear up to the current version. I Went through and completed a clean installation following the instructions to a T on every version of Aura and nothing worked. Program wont work wont load. LED ES in my bios looks good, Bios is current for my mobo, All drivers are current, I thought I would see if Armory and Aura GPU would load and both programs work perfect. Im at a loss for words, Im not joking when I said I have tried every single trick in the book. I spent 15 hours in one go trying to get this to work. Extremely frustrated

The lighting service interferes with the Far Cry 5 Easy Anti Cheat system and completely stops the game from being able to launch, Easily repeatable, End the process and the game launches, When the process is active the game refuses to launch, Example below.

Im noticing a trend here beyond the typical Aura issues, Aura seems to not be working with most people who have completed the windows fall update. Unfortunately I already re-formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows and its not letting me roll back the update. I'm serious when I say all drivers on my PC are current, Bios is Current and I have followed uninstall/install instructions to the T. using ccleaner and Aura Clean as well. I've also tried to utilize every trick in the book. I tried every version of Aura from the first one released for my mobo to the current beta. The only one that even remotely seems like it wants to work is the .65 and only if I don't restart Windows after the install. But the program wont detect a single thing. Then after restart it wont load again, even if I restart right away it wont load. Frustrating, and I hate the fact that Windows Updates always seem to break one program or another on my system. As noted, After all of this. Just to get my RGB products to match my mobo I installed Armory and Aura GPU. Both of those programs run better for me then they ever have in the past.

When I install this version of Aura all it sees is my graphics card and nothing else.

I have an Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero motherboard with latest bios, GSkill RGB Ram, an RTX 2080 Graphics card and Thermaltake fans compatible with Aura. Version 1.06.17 sees my motherboard and Ram but not my fans or graphics card ... all versions after that including the one on my motherboard drivers page only see the Graphics card .... it is really starting to frustrate me as it should see all my compatible devices and allow me control over them. Any help greatly appreciated

I have tried re-installing along with unplugging all power for 15 mins, I have tried turning the leds off then back on in bios. I have used Revo uninstaller as well as Aura cleaner and Ccleaner. I just want Aura to see my motherboard, Fans, GPU, RAM and led strip like it should. Right now I am back on version 1.06.17 as at least it sees my motherboard, RAM and led strip.

See Below: The first is 1.06.17 and the second is 1.07.22. Is there any reason the later version now cannot see the motherboard or RAM ???

Hi,

Can you try to update your BIOS and see if it improves things : https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?105974-BIOS-0602-ROG-Maximus-XI-amp-ROG-Strix-Z390-Gaming

Tried this with my Code IX and it didn't fix anything. I hope it works for him. I even tried every version of the bios and aura software listed on my support page along with a fresh install of windows 10. I cant even get it to stay running after a restart. As a side not Mobo stays on blue rgb and rainbow when power is off. I tried Aura GPU and Rog Armory just to make sure my RGB controllers worked. And they do so I don't suspect the LED FW
