I recently purchased the:
ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED (K5504)
I have worked in computers for over 30 years and I can tell you - from using it for the last 10 months - what a flawless, amazing device at a very good price point. Very happy with it.
I cannot therefore understand why ASUS would associate themselves with McAfee. I took advantage of the ASUS / McAfee LiveSafe subscription for 1 year included with the device.
Big mistake. As a paying customer, I've been repeatedly bombarded with popups and offers FROM THAT SOFTWARE. Honestly, it was like having a virus installed on my computer. It repeatedly pops up nags about buying their other products. My subscriptions runs out in January and I will be glad to be shut of it. There is no option to turn these nags off and you can't change the software. I've reported my displeasure to McAfee and their support said they'd already reported this as a problem, but in later versions, the nags actually appeared to get worse and include more of their products!
Why would ASUS recommend this garbage with such a fantastic machine. I would suggest you look for better security software partners ASUS. Your hardware deserves better - not to mention your customers.
PS: It also uploads VAST amounts of data about my machine:
Task Scheduler / McAfee / WPS / McAfee Health Check
C:\Program Files\McAfee\wps\1.22.200.1\sustainability\mc-sustainability.exe
There is no option to turn this data gathering and upload off. All of these tasks are protected from the user, even when the "secure McAfee software from changes" option is turned off. This is a clear violation of my privacy as I do not know OR WANT TO SHARE any information about my device or usage with McAfee.
Honestly. This software BEHAVES like a virus.
My recommendation can only be to ANYONE purchasing an ASUS device, with offers from McAfee, DON'T do it. Go with another paid antivirus solution. McAfee LiveSafe is garbage and they don't respect their customers.
